Thousands of fans came out in New Zealand last night to celebrate the world premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Cate Blanchett was one of the stars that hit the red carpet, signing autographs and posing for photos on her way into the screening. Elijah Wood, Martin Freeman, Evangeline Lilly, and director Peter Jackson, who brought his daughter, also showed their support for the big event. Evangeline debuted a dramatic new look on the arm of co-star James Nesbitt while Elijah waved to the overwhelming crowds as he emerged from the Hobbit house that was constructed at the front of the Embassy Theatre. It's just the beginning of press for the movie, which hits cinemas on Dec. 26.
Elle Fanning wore Dolce & Gabbana to join Christina Hendricks at a screening of their movie Ginger & Rosa at The Paley Center in LA on Thursday night. Christina also opted for a long dress, and apparently she and Elle have a similar taste in clothes. Elle told us she and Christina bonded over shopping, saying, "She loves vintage just like me. We share the love of that — she looks amazing."
Elle also had kind words for her co-star in Maleficent, Angelina Jolie. Elle admitted to being nervous when she first met Angelina. She told us last night, "I remember going into Pinewood Studios and turning the corner in London, seeing her for the first time and thinking, 'There she is!' And she immediately just gave me a huge hug. And she said, 'We're going to have so much fun working together!' From that moment I was like, 'Oh my God — she's touching me!'" Angelina and Elle won't be on the big screen together until 2014, but Elle's Ginger & Rosa will be out early next year.
Oh, we do so love when our favourite celebs fly all the way down to Australia to see us! While we weren't busy being distracted by Rob, we kept our eyes on the endless amount of royals who hit the town this week — from Kate Middleton sharing a laugh with some special guests, her father-in-law Prince Charles and his wife Camilla chatting to our own Kylie Minogue, to a certain "Royal Hotness" and more, it seemed like a good week to be a member of the royal family! Celebrities were kept busy, too — some were filming shirtless scenes on the beach in Hawaii (tough gig) while others were fitting in world premieres, grand balls, shoe shopping and charity lunches. Phew! We've got a much less exhausting way for you to catch up on all that happened in the celebrity world this week: just click through the gallery, and enjoy!
The ladies of Butter were in town last night for the movie's NYC premiere looking super polished in an array of gorgeous dresses. Ashley went for a monochrome look in a pretty pale pink Donna Karan wrap dress and suede Casadei heels, while Olivia showed off a strong-shouldered modern white sheath dress by Alexander McQueen paired with gold metallic pumps and a matching clutch. Always a stunner on the red carpet, Jennifer Garner showed off her A-list style in a ravishing red Gucci gown paired with a beautiful Pomellato gold-and-diamond chain-link bracelet, while Alicia stayed sweet in a silk scalloped dress and black satin pumps. Which leading lady gets your best-dressed style vote?
Jennifer Garner made a red-carpet appearance with the cast of Butter at the NYC premiere on Thursday night. She chose a strapless Gucci gown for the occasion, which came after attending a press conference earlier in the day. Jennifer had Ashley Greene; Olivia Wilde, in Alexander McQueen; and Ty Burrell by her side for both events. Co-star Alicia Silverstone missed out on the promotional stop but joined them for the screening and later at the afterparty sponsored by Appleton Estate Rum. Jennifer, Alicia, and Olivia mingled with Harvey Weinstein at Double Seven, where they celebrated their premiere. While Jennifer is working in NYC, her husband, Ben Affleck, is on the West Coast. He attended a charity dinner on Monday night and was spotted grabbing lunch on his motorcycle on Thursday.
Emma Watson wore an asymmetrical Brood mini to bring The Perks of Being a Wallflower to NYC for an East Coast debut on Thursday night. She was joined at the Cinema Society event by her co-stars Adam Higenbuch, Johnny Simmons, Logan Lerman, Ezra Miller, and Erin Wilhelmi at the city's Crosby Street Hotel. Emma and Ezra were in LA earlier this week for their big West Coast debut. There, Emma told us about her reaction when Perks got a standing ovation at TIFF, and also dished on the "hippie"-like atmosphere on set when she made the movie during the winter of 2010 in Pittsburgh. Emma also fit in a stop by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on Thursday. Her interview was hilarious — Jimmy asked Emma about being the riskiest person to search on the Internet. She replied, "My brother says, 'You're about as dangerous as a fluffy bunny.'" Emma and Jimmy also did a silly dance together, and she went on to express love for Pittsburgh.
Emma Watson hit the red carpet in Armani for her The Perks of Being a Wallflower premiere in LA on Monday night. She posed hand in hand with her co-star Nina Dobrev, who donned a sexy Reem Acra dress, along with the rest of the Wallflower crew, Kate Walsh, Dylan McDermott, Ezra Miller, and Jackson Rathbone. Ezra even brought a cardboard cut-out of Logan Lerman, who wasn't able to make the star-studded affair. Shailene Woodley was on hand to lend her support for the film as well. The West Coast premiere was the latest stop on Emma's promotional tour. She linked up with Nina to premiere the film at the Toronto International Film Festival this past weekend, and last week stopped by the Late Show in NYC to chat about the coming-of-age film. Emma also hit the MTV VMAs last Thursday, and will grace the cover of Glamour's October issue.
Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana teamed up to premiere The Words in LA on Tuesday night. Zoe wore a gold Elie Saab number while Bradley looked dapper in a Tom Ford suit. The onscreen couple are reportedly back together in real life as well after a brief split in March. Bradley talked about Zoe on the carpet saying that she "brought so much to the movie and a depth to it that we didn't really bargain for." In turn, "the movie became very romantic" and "much deeper." Their co-stars, including Jeremy Irons, Dennis Quaid, and Ben Barnes, were on hand to support the project, and James Van Der Beek and his wife, Kimberly Brook, popped up on the red carpet, too. One person absent from the event was leading lady Olivia Wilde, who was recently spotted spending time in North Carolina with boyfriend Jason Sudeikis.
The ladies of Bachelorette, Isla Fisher, Kirsten Dunst and Lizzy Kaplan, gathered for their LA premiere on Thursday night. They had company on the red carpet from their leading man James Marsden, as well as their movie's director Leslye Headland and Aussie co-star Rebel Wilson. Isla, Kirsten, and Lizzy coordinated in red, white, and blue — who's your pick for best dressed at the Bachelorette premiere? Isla's red number was from Reem Acra, and Kirsten's blue was designed by Jean Paul Gaultier. At the film's ArcLight Cinemas afterparty, Ali Larter showed her tummy in a striped outfit, paired with an Edie Parker clutch, and made the rounds alongside husband Hayes MacArthur. Bachelorette hits cinemas November 29.
It was a star-studded red carpet at Tuesday night's premiere of Hit and Run (out Sep. 6) at Regal Cinemas in LA. Dax Shepard, who wrote and directed the film, arrived in style with his leading lady, and fiancée, Kristen Bell, by his side. Kristen rocked a black satin jumpsuit, while co-star Bradley Cooper sported a sexy leather jacket. The stars all took time to sign autographs for fans who were lining the streets before joining castmates Jason Bateman, Michael Rosenbaum, Tom Arnold, Ryan Hansen, and Joy Bryant for group photos. It looked like they had a great time filming since their red carpet reunion was filled with plenty of laughter. We asked the stars how Dax stacked up as a director and Ryan jokingly rated him an 8.5, saying, "He's got some work to do," while Bradley simply said, "He's awesome; he's incredible." Bradley also mentioned he'd love to try his hand at directing soon, too.
