She might be the most jaw-droppingly gorgeous — and certainly most successful — supermodel of all time, and once we started looking at Gisele Bundchen's editorial career, our wonder and respect for the model/mum/activist/designer/sexy Brazilian only grew. The 32-year-old was discovered at age 13 in a Brazilian shopping mall and went on to become the world's richest supermodel after countless editorials, ad campaigns, and a lucrative stint as a Victoria's Secret Angel. If we thought we might tire of her insanely long, lean body and sun-kissed features, we were wrong. Gisele became a mum in 2010, and thanks to some tummy-covering shoots of late may potentially is pregant again with her second child to hubby Tom Brady. In honour of her being the only model on Forbes magazine's list of 100 of "The World's Most Powerful Women" (for the second consecutive year no less), we put together a serious collection of some her most memorable editorials, beginning with her early days. Stella McCartney Stays True To Her Roots for Summer '13
Stella McCartney is clearly the loyal type, employing yet again the considerable talents of snapper duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, and the gamine looks of Natalia Vodianova for her Summer '13 campaign. The Russian supe' is an old hand at working her her refined, child-like brand of beauty and sophisticated poise to of Stella's seasonal ads, having done so since the Spring 2010 season. This time around, Stella spotlights the bright, sporty colour-blocked creations alongside the textural plays of white-on-white from the S/S 2013 runway offering, as well as the recently relaunched optical line (hitting stores March) and a new hero bag — the Bailey Boo. The Inimitable Kate Moss: See 150 of Her Most Stunning Editorials!
Can you believe Kate Moss turned 39 during the week? It seems like just yesterday she was a fresh-faced teen model, posing for Calvin Klein ads and dating Johnny Depp. Through setbacks, scandals, and stirring up global controversies, Kate's career has managed to endure — she has starred in campaigns for Rimmel London, David Yurman, Stella McCartney, and Dior, to mention a few, and has even designed collections for Topshop and Longchamp. In 2011, Kate returned to the runway for Louis Vuitton, cigarette in hand — silencing even her harshest critics and reminding us all why we love her so much — then showed her softer side during her English countryside wedding to The Kills' frontman Jamie Hince.
With the release of her coffee table tome, Kate: The Kate Moss Book in 2012, it became even more apparent how staggering Kate's career is, spanning over 25 years. No matter what she's gone through, Kate remains a fashion industry fixture and continues to inspire us with her gorgeous spreads and covetable street-style looks. We're wishing Kate a happy 39th birthday by taking a look back at some of her many amazing fashion editorials — click through to see them all now.
Our Kind of Perfect: Montana Cox for Camilla and Marc A/W '13
CAMILLA AND MARC took inspiration from the imperfect, the impermanent and incomplete — the three principles of the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi — for their Autumn/Winter '13 collection. Yet we can't see too much that's imperfect about the line-up of wrap-skirts, tunics folded with origami-like precision or the minimal shift dresses. Perhaps it's the tiny bites taken from the hem of a skirt or cuff of a trouser, or maybe it's the off-kilter pairing of a plus-sized windcheater with a razor sharp mini, or it could be the slightly clashing turquoise and magenta or army green and violet colour combinations that hint at this inner-imbalance. Either way, the choice to use ANTM winner Montana Cox to model the cool-but-wearable collection was one made in perfect harmony with both the brand's party-hopping, A-list fans as well as the industry-types who will lap up every page of the A/W look book. Who needs perfection, anyway?
Go Behind the Scenes on Mulberry's Under The Sea Spring '13 Campaign
If there's one thing that gets our attention faster than you can say "Mulberry Bayswater Bag" it's the term behind-the-scenes. We love getting access to the VIP areas on big name brand campaign shoots, so when Mulberry sent through the a sneaky look at the making of their latest Spring '13 advertising campaign we were all ears, or eyes to be precise. The making of these fabulously glossy images are sometimes just as, if not more, interesting than the final product — and Mulberry's pastel-hued, underwater wonderland is no exception.
British snapper extraordinaire Tim Walker illuminated us, saying "This season I wanted to focus on the girl as part of the landscape rather than a character within it and, as such, casting was crucial… thus the pictures of Meghan Collison become more like portraits. Meghan Collison was the perfect choice, strong, confident, able to hold your gaze but almost otherworldly, she inhabits a dreamscape.” Keep clicking to see what went on on set, as well as the finished product.
Presenting the Model of the Year: Miranda Kerr
Choosing this year's model of the year was no easy feat — hello, have you seen the stunning nominees? Miranda Kerr, Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls, Cara Delevingne and Alessandra Ambrosio all battled it out for the top spot, but alas, there can only be one who reigns supreme. And we're excited to reveal that it's Miranda Kerr! Just one look at her portfolio this year, and it's not hard to see why she nabbed the win. From sexy Victoria's Secret ads to high-end editorials to envious street style, Miranda had us doing double takes all year long. To celebrate this mega accomplishment, we've rounded up her hottest editorials, as well as some equally gorgeous spreads, courtesy of her very qualified competition.
Miss Vogue Gets Social With Nine Cover Girls for December
Vogue's online, little sister masthead has tapped into the power the web for its December edition. Miss Vogue has nominated nine Australian style influencers who use their e-presence and social media skills to reach their style-obsessed readership in a way that is more immediate and tangible than traditional media. The cover girls have a combined reach of over one million people, which adds up to a lot of 'likes', 'follows' and 'retweets'! Lara Bingle leads the charge (very apt, considering her new role at CO Cotton On), accompanied by Samantha Weaving, Ruby Rose and Isabelle Cornish, whilst Jessica Stein, Nicole Warne and Sara Donaldson head up the blogger pack. Shot by Pierre Toussaint, styled by Christine Centenera, and dressed entirely in Josh Goot's Resort '12 collection (which, btw you can buy off the girls' backs), this is one slick celebration of Aussies making a fashionable splash on the world wide web. What's Lara Bingle's New Gig for CO Cotton On?
Lara Bingle is full of suprises. When she tweeted that she was on set in LA for CO Cotton On's latest campaign shoot, we assumed that she was in front of the camera. But it's local beauties Alexandra Spencer and Bambi Northwood Blythe that share the spotlight as dual faces for the A/W '13 line, with Ms Bingle taking a behind-the-scenes role. As stylist you ask? Nope. Photographer perhaps? Think again. Lara is stepping in as Cotton On's roving reporter, using her social media skills to share a behind-the-scenes experience of the brand. Clever, huh? We saw the threads last week, and can confirm that they're as good IRL as they look in the campaign. So much so that we're willing to wait until Jan/Feb to get our paws on that two-tone military vest that Lara's wearing on set. Step inside to see the girls at play in L.A.
See Prada's All Star Cast for Spring/Summer '13
Booking a Prada campaign is pretty much the pinnacle of any model's career (if you're not on the Victoria's Secret bandwagon, that is), so we're happy to see that the Italian fashion house is sharing around some of the Spring/Summer '2013 love this season with an A-list ensemble cast. Miuccia Prada favourites Amber Valletta and Raquel Zimmermann return for S/S '13, and familiar faces Sasha Pivovarova, Saskia de Brauw and Kirsten Owen pop up too. The names to note however are the newbies; Vanessa Axente, Irina Kravchenko, Sung Hee, Irene Hiemstra and Maartje Verhoef. These girls are mixing it with some of the industry's best, and for Prada no less. Step inside to see this all-star do their thing for Mr Steven Meisel's expert lens.
