Not that we need reminding, but Australian women really are leading the style the pack at the moment. All the proof you need ir right here, with Rose Byrne, Miranda Kerr and Christine Centenera giving us some of our absolute favourite looks of the week. Miranda's look was (believe it or not) just her regular work-day attire — but it was anything but average — while Rose Byrne's simple Emmy Awards gown was one of the best on a red carpet full of dramatic gowns. Christine is a seasoned fashion week style setter, and she didn't let us down this week in Paris. As for the international stars? Taylor Swift wowed us in a beautiful tea dress that we couldn't take our eyes off. Click through to see this week's Top 10 best dressed stars!
There's nothing that hints at a fresh season quite like the new collections hitting our favourite local department store. David Jones is welcoming its Spring/Summer range into stores and online this week ahead of its iconic fashion launch, starring new ambassador Jessica Gomes leading a spectacular runway show filled with trends from the very best Australian designers.
Local labels including Dion Lee, Josh Goot, Willow and Collette Dinnigan have played with athletic shapes, graphic prints and ladylike silhouettes for the new season, making David Jones a one-stop-shop for all your work, event and occasion dressing needs. Whether you're after a two-piece short suit (think voluminous shapes thanks to Bassike), a streamlined dress (by tailoring maestro Alex Perry), or playful resort-wear (enter the wonderful world of Camilla), David Jones ambassadors Jessica Gomes and Montana Cox will show you the best of the bunch in this look book gallery.
From Sydney's Bondi markets to NET-A-PORTER label, over the last decade Australian label Lover has become a fixture on the international style circuit — complete with it-girl devotees Alexa Chung and Miranda Kerr. Released today, Lover's first ever campaign is fronted by fiery British model Karen Elson and features Lover's Chorus collection for Spring Summer 13/14. The campaign showcases a milkshake palette of ultra-feminine lace, with flippy sun-dresses in dusty blue sitting alongside stunning, high-neck cocktail frocks. Soft, natural light is the campaign photographer, Lina Scheynius', trademark — adding a raw, ethereal feel. Click through the gallery for a first look at the new Lover campaign.
Working in the fashion industry, first as a magazine stylist and now as the editor of POPSUGAR Fashion, I've picked up a few tricks along the way for storing, displaying and organising the content of my (somewhat overstuffed) closet. From the colour coordinating trick I pull on my hanging space, to my vast collection of boxes (thank you IKEA), to the use of table ware to display my dainty PANDORA jewellery collection — there's plenty of pro tips to take from going inside my wardrobe. Then, there's the small matter of my shoe addiction. . . Ahem. Feel like getting your snoop on? Then let me give you the grand tour . . .
When something works, you stick with it — isn't that right Lover? When the local label reached into its archives to reissue 15 of their most popular white lace pieces, the cult-status dresses sold out. Again. Thankfully Lover is giving us more of what we want, creating eight new styles for the second installment of the White Magick by Lover collection — including one particularly beautiful full-length gown designed exclusively for Net-a-Porter's designer wedding dress capsule.
Designer Susien Chong nominated her favourite frock for us, saying "My favourite piece from the collection is the Eden Dress, it's sleek column shape and subtle train is a modern take on femininity — but the french lace inserts on the bodice is a nod to tradition." The entire collection drops into the Sydney Strand Arcade flagship today. If history is anything to go by, these whimsical numbers are sure to be snapped up by bohemian brides looking for something special. The collection is priced between $695 and $3,495. Stockist: Lvl 1, Shop 69-71, The Strand Arcade, 412-414 George St, Sydney, NSW. (02) 9232 7289.
We're in the thick of all things Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, and we're keeping a keen eye on visiting international style-setters and bloggers. Most important are the buyers who turn up hoping to spy cool new threads and trends to adopt — and this year Shopbop, one of our most visited shopping sites, has its team on the ground here in Sydney. New Yorker Jenny Fuchs is one of Shopbop's fashion buyers, and we asked her to tell us what she brought with her for the trip. In here, you'll find a totally wearable compilation of easy dresses, cool bomber jackets and a colourful clutch — all from a mix of Aussie and international designers. See the pieces (and shop them!) in the gallery, and have a read of Jenny's thoughts on MBFWA.
- On what she's excited to see: I love all the swim shows — they have such a fun vibe! Plus seeing all the Aussie bloggers — their style is amazing and they always represent what’s new from Australian designers.
- Last year's MBFWA: It was a whirlwind! We met so many new designers that are now on our site.
- Australian style: Easy and fun, but still chic — items that can go from the shows and market appointments to a dinner down at Bondi Beach.
The trend literally walked towards us when we took in Lover's presentation at the David Jones 2013 A/W Fashion Launch and now it's finally here: intricately-detailed cut-outs are featuring on everything from belts to bags, skirts, shorts and shoes — and we can't get enough of the stuff. Most often used on quality leather, the laser-cutting technique means that the most beautiful designs can be carved into just about any item, turning it into a walking piece of art. While Azzedine Alaia and Aussie label Lover are leading the way, we've found so many laser-cut pieces that we'd like in our wardrobe very much, thanks. Here are our top 10 picks!
Well, it's been a fashion- and beauty-filled week, to say the least! Much of our time was taken up by the David Jones A/W '13 Fashion Launch, which was held on Wednesday night. Ali and Alison had access to all the behind-the-scenes action, and they spent some time chatting to the gorgeous Miranda Kerr about all things style and beauty. In the office, we were blown away by Beyoncé's crazy-good Super Bowl performance, and Jess scored tickets to an event fit for a princess. In amongst it all, we saw pretty new products, received some exciting deliveries, and made sure we took some time out for a drink (or two!). Click through to see everything else we got up to!
It was a dark but glamorous mood that pervaded last night's David Jones Autumn/Winter fashion launch. A model perched high atop an illuminated cursive-font sign welcomed guests; the train of her dramatic scarlet dress hitting the red carpet below hinting at the extravaganza to come. Sydney's A-list was dressed accordingly — frocking up for the fashionable fête, but it was Miranda Kerr we were all there to see. And see we did, with the ambassador modelling key looks from the department store's new season edit; starting off with Ellery's "biscuit" hued cocktail dress before working Zimmermann's noir lace pantsuit, a leather-bodiced Willow frock, Camillla and Marc's sculptural LBD, Collette Dinnigan's Chinoiserie-print gown, Josh Goot's spliced skirt-suit and for the finale, Josh Goot's delightfully spliced leather two-piece.
We've rounded up our favourite runway looks from all-Australian A/W edit, with particular attention paid to the biggest trends of the season; leather (often of the coloured variety, doubled-up graphic prints, slick suiting, lace and sheer. Step inside get the heads-up on what local looks are going to be big for Autumn/Winter 2013.
What a night! David Jones rolled out the red carpet last night for Sydney's style-set, with a slew of well-dressed celebrities, media-types and fashion designers frocking up to see the a runway preview of the department store's Autumn/Winter '13 collections. Of course ambassadors Miranda Kerr (clad in what she called a "biscuit coloured" Ellery frock and Valentino heels) and Jason Dundas were on deck, as were Megan Gale who got sexy in a Lisa Ho leather shift, Jesinta Campbell who looked slick in all-black Ginger & Smart, girl-about-town Isabelle Cornish who looked adorable in black lace Lover, and Emma Freedman who wore a sculptural Camilla and Marc frock. In short, it was this year's best-dressed crowd by a long shot. Want to see more? Step inside to zoom in on all the stylish details from David Jones' fashionable arrivals.
