Footwear genius Giuseppe Zanotti has decided to show off his sporty side with a new collection of sneakers. Watch out, this isn't your average pair of Nike Dunks or Adidas trainers. Instead, Zanotti added bling and flair via studs and suede. "The result is really quite radical — a shoe that oozes classic-couture while at the same time communing with the hip-hop generation," said Zanotti. The collection is available at Giuseppe Zanotti Design international boutiques and selected department stores — are you lusting after a pair?
So, I was drooling flicking through the latest Vogue UK and stumbled across these camel boots as part of their 'More Dash Than Cash' budget shoot. I immediately hunted them down and, to my absolute delight, found them on sale at Asos.com for about $46! Thinking it was too good to be true, I scrolled down to find most sizes still available, including mine! I KNOW, I should totally buy a lottery ticket. I still haven't forgiven myself for missing out on Chloé's original version from Fall '09, so these little puppies are like a gift sent down from the fashion gods. Wear them with ribbed socks and a cute mini á la Vogue, or save them for the weekend mixed with denim and nautical stripes. Either way, just get 'em!
How cheesy-cute is this Giuseppe Zanotti Spring ad? The campaign, shot by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, shows off the designer's playful side featuring model hottie (and Kylie's hunk) Andrés Velencoso Segura as the backdrop — or should we say, face pedestal — to Giuseppe's amazing footwear collection.
We can't stop swooning over the selection of bedazzled sandals, militant booties, and spunky flats. Oh, and Andrés? Ridic city. Also, check out Giuseppe's new accessories collection filled with saucy studs and luscious leather!
Jimmy Choo have this week added to their footwear portfolio with the launch of a luxury trainers line. The shoes, which you can join a waiting list for now, are made of leather and suede and come in five different styles. There are three high top styles including this blue Tokyo style (below, left). It makes sense for the brand, who also recently announced a collaboration with Ugg, to expand their collection, but do people really want to splurge on luxe trainers? It's quite fitting this season because of the sportswear trend, although I'm not convinced you could do any actual sport in these shoes. I can't wait to hear your thoughts!
Gisele Bündchen showed no signs of any post-baby weight this week in a figure hugging Herve Leger dress. The model was in Paris to promote her latest flip flop line, Ipanema, created with Grendene. This collection are inspired by all things natural. Gisele told WWD, "Nature is very close to my heart, and it is important for me that people who buy my flip-flops are made aware of the environment." A portion of proceeds from the shoes goes to a project that reintroduces turtle hatchlings into the sea. Despite being heavily involved with the company, Gisele confesses to doing no actual designing. "I am very inspired by nature and like to use that for my ideas, but actually designing them — no way. I would be a disaster." It's refreshing to hear a celebrity designer be so honest!
You can now shop Versace online as the Italian mega-brand joins Net-a-Porter. The Spring/Summer '10 collection is Donatella's favourite and includes leather dresses, skirts and pastel shades. These space age style cut out boots (approx $2,200) are part of the Summer line and recently caught my eye, but I'm not entirely sold on them. What do you think of this eye catching footwear?
Despite 2009 being a horrific year for retail, Christian Louboutin maintains his business grew by double digits. This could be due to the fact that he rarely gives shoes away and that only a limited number of celebrities receive a discount. Or, it could be due to his faithful and best customer, who happens to be — drum roll please — American romance novelist Danielle Steel. Louboutin told Vanity Fair that the author is a "super" customer. "She comes to Paris and she literally buys everything. Then she flies back to New York, says, 'I'm a little disappointed, there's nothing in store,' and walks out with 80 pairs." Ah, now that's amore.
Mulberry know exactly what women want – gorgeous shoes and sweets! Their Bond Street store has had a bit of a makeover for Spring with the main focus on their lust-worthy footwear collection. The whole downstairs has been transformed in to a colourful playground with plenty of balloons, lollipops and even a carousel horse. The Spring footwear collection includes Moccasin booties, floral tie sandals, and cute printed flats. There are, of course, accessories scattered around too in bright Spring colours. If a trip to London isn't on your schedule this year, be sue to check out their online store which now ships to Australia. Yipee!
Footwear genius Christian Louboutin gave an interview to The Guardian this weekend where he spoke candidly about the comfort of heels, who he'd like to dress and those Barbie rumours.
Throughout the interview he stressed that he never wanted to be part of the fashion world. He commented, "I never was interested in being part of the fashion world—I just wanted to design shoes. I didn't even know Vogue existed when I was growing up. Vogue, what is that?" His shoes are adored by celebrites like Madonna, Carla Bruni and Lady Gaga, but he revealed that the woman he'd really like as a customer is The Queen of England.
High heels are famously one of the ways which women suffer for fashion, although luxury shoes are often assumed to be more comfortable. Louboutin discussed comfort, but it seems that isn't his main concern. "It is important because a woman doesn't look good if she's not comfortable. But I wouldn't take it as a compliment if someone looked at one of my shoes and said, 'Oh, that looks like a comfortable shoe'. There is a heel that is too high to walk in, certainly. But who cares? You don't have to walk in high heels."
