Alex Perry is one of the most highly anticipated shows during Australian fashion week, and just as the models hit the runway, we've got the backstage scoop. In line with Alex's new, more masculine direction, Napoleon Perdis went sports luxe for the makeup look. There's more contouring — a very big trend for the shows — but this time he's kept a subtle radiance on the skin. 2013 Autumn Winter Paris Fashion Week: Miu Miu

If Princess Leia was looking for a way to update her signature style, the Miu Miu Autumn Winter 2013 runway would be the obvious choice.

If Princess Leia was looking for a way to update her signature style, the Miu Miu Autumn Winter 2013 runway would be the obvious choice. Models wore a severe side part with sleek, side-swept bangs that led to two braided chignons at the nape. The makeup was centred around a bold ombré lip; the oxblood colour was strongest around the edges and faded in the centre of the mouth.

The look: Double-braided chignons paired with a vampy lip colour.
Who would wear it: Princess Leia or Heidi.
Ambience: The front row was packed with big names, including Renée Zellweger, Zoe Saldana, and January Jones.

Trend Alert: Spool-Shaped Top Knots

Over the past few seasons, top knots have taken on just about every texture and structure imaginable.

Over the past few seasons, top knots have taken on just about every texture and structure imaginable. The latest incarnation of this go-to look, however, is long and skinny, jutting out high and straight from atop the wearer's head. Think: the I Dream of Jeannie cylindrical ponytail meets Cindy Lou Who's cone-like up 'do. But this spooled shape somehow slants more cutting-edge than cartoonish.

This is in part to its simplicity. Celebrity fans Shirley Manson and Kelly Osbourne, who have both been spotted out in the spindly style multiple times, opted for extremely slicked-back versions. Nicole Richie, on the other hand, went for a softer, less-severe interpretation of the trend. Whether you wear it with face-framing fringe or doused in gel, be ready to turn plenty of heads with this one.

Lauren Conrad: 10 Bun Moments to Love

When we talk about out celebrity girl crushes, Lauren Conrad is right up there with the likes of Cara Delevingne and Kate Moss.

When we talk about out celebrity girl crushes, Lauren Conrad is right up there with the likes of Cara Delevingne and Kate Moss. The ex-reality star has carved a reputable writing career following her leading lady status on The Hills, and she even released her own beauty book earlier this year, Lauren Conrad Beauty. Aside from consistently rocking perfectly winged eyeliner, Lauren is also a major fan of the bun. She sported the easy but polished hair look at numerous New York fashion week events recently, complete with cute baby hair around her face (this really softens the look of an otherwise polished hairstyle). To celebrate her love of taking the high road and our love of her, we've got Lauren's top 10 bun moments. Yippee!

The Secret to Acing Diane Kruger's Sleek Top Knot

Stunning on the red carpet is one of Diane Kruger's best moves, and at the premiere of Inescapable at the Toronto Film Festival, she upped the ante.

Stunning on the red carpet is one of Diane Kruger's best moves, and at the premiere of Inescapable at the Toronto Film Festival, she upped the ante. Her tight, yet somehow wispy top knot was both glamorous and edgy. Celebrity hairstylist Kylee Heath, who styled Diane's hair for the premiere, explained that her inspiration was Valentino's Fall 2012 couture show. "We wanted to modernise the look a bit with a soft edge," she said. To achieve the runway-inspired style, Heath started with a cocktail of Oscar Blandi Volumizing Spray on Diane's ends and Kérastase Mousse Volumactive on her roots.

After she blew out Diane's hair, she pulled it up into a high ponytail. The trick to this sleek bun is that Heath broke the ponytail into three sections, wrapping them around the base one at a time, securing with pins. She finished with a mist of Frederic Fekkai Sheer Hold Hair Spray. "I chose to leave the hairs around the hairline soft and not slick," she said. "This made the look more red carpet and less runway." And also insanely easy to replicate at home.

Over here in the land of beauty, Nicole Richie's bun isn't just any old bun, it's a perfectly plaited bun. It's sleek, and neat, and her hair colour is so creamy it is almost edible. On the red carpet for the 9th Annual Style Awards in New York today, Nicole let her fringe sit relaxed to the left, and kept the right side tight and clean. It's a cute hairstyle for the pint-sized star, and one that is surprisingly easy to get at home. Weekend up 'do inspo anyone? Click through to find out how.

Kate's Romantic Chignon Vs Jessica's Sleek Bun

Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel were looking divine in Berlin for the Total Recall premiere overnight.

Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel were looking divine in Berlin for the Total Recall premiere overnight. The pair have been stunning the world with a variety of beauty looks while promoting the action film, but last night's looks were by far our favourite. Kate looked pretty and romantic with a side chignon and swept fringe, while Jessica looked clean and polished with a sleek bun. She wore her fringe straight and blunt, which finished off her well-manicured look. Both ladies kept their makeup minimal with two sets of nude lips, Kate went for gloss while Jessica kept it matte. What do you think — romantic or sleek and straight?

The Perfect Job Interview Hair and Makeup Look

Job interviews can be tricky, can't they?

Job interviews can be tricky, can't they? A little bit like wearing nail polish to the office. It's hard to know how much is too much beauty-wise, but what is not enough. Hair up or down? Eyeshadow or eyeliner and mascara? And do we dare wear lipstick?! The truth is, it doesn't matter. The key to nailing a job interview — whether it be for your dream job or an internship — is just being yourself. And guess what? The same goes goes for your hair and beauty look. There's no point in wearing bright pink lipstick just because it is on-trend if it doesn't speak to who you are as a person. And don't worry about wearing your hair in a style that you think the other girls working there would — you're not the other girls! You are you, and that needs to be your main sell. All of the above said, there is a magic hair and makeup formula that will suit everyone and leave you looking chic, polished and totally desirable to hire. Let's go!
