There are so many things going on with Agyness Deyn right now that it's hard to keep up! We've already spoken about her upcoming magazine launch - Naag, plus she's designed a clothing line with Barneys Japan. And now, we get a first glimpse of her acting abilities as the raven haired model glams up for her part in Mean To Me. The vintage style costumes for the film noir, which is directed by Peter McGough, were created by Zac Posen. Below is a short clip from the 13-minute film which will get its first full screening at New York art gallery, Cheim & Read later this month. What do you think of her acting chops?
OK peeps, before we head straight into the London shows, lets take a quick (cat)walk through some standout trends New York had to offer. There's definitely been a pattern emerging with military, tailoring, ladylike, layering and texture all appearing in full force. Despite the hot weather outside this is making me want to ditch the Summer dress in favour of a woolen coat and hosiery! Ah, the power of good clothes. Ready, set, drool!
Zac Posen left the evening gowns behind for a more structured and refined Fall '10 collection. An earthy palette of grey, camel, chocolate and black was styled against bursts of deep-red, purples, and army greens. Fur was the texture of choice, featuring heavily on coats, trims and even shoes, while most pieces were kept fuss-free thanks to their clean lines and architectural details.
Dresses were modern and sharp in their silhouettes, however pants and jackets took on a retro feel with high-waists and cocoon shapes worked into the range. I'm hoping this simple yet striking collection will help pull the young designer from his recent financial struggles, as I can see these pieces walking straight out of store doors.
Louise Roe predicts Fall 2010’s top trends will fall into two categories: feminine or futuristic. In one camp, designers like Zac Posen, Carolina Herrera, and Monique Lhuillier are taking cues from Old Hollywood silhouettes as seen on the red carpet from celebrities like An Education’s Carey Mulligan and Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks. In the other camp, fashion-forward thinkers Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, Yigal Azrouël and Project Runway winners Christian Siriano and Irina Shabayeva are taking a more avant-garde, Avatar-inspired take on what’s to come.
Only 2 sleeps to go! New York Fashion Week is only days away and I'm quite, (ok, ridiculoulsy) excited...can you tell? I've been looking back at last year's parades to get me in the mood and there are certainly a few key players which I can't wait to see again this year. Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Rodarte.. you get my drift. How about you; are there any shows which you're hanging to see most?
Don't forget to check back to FAB this week for a full roundup of all the shows, trends and celebrities from New York Fall '10 Fashion Week!
Inspired by her recent trip to India, newly engaged Katy Perry brings her Bollywood colour palette to the Grammys red carpet: gold appliqué florals against a nude, form-fitting canvas. Jai Ho!
Katy Perry decided to wear a nude gold sequin embellished Zac Posen gown to the festivities. She might look covered up in the front, but a low-cut back adds a revealing touch. Take note of the sporadic floral bursts — retro meets futuristic! A multi-colour beaded clutch, dangly earrings, and exotic gold bindi complete her look. Do you rate it or hate it?
We spoke about Zac Posen's collaboration with Target back in December, and now we have images of the range which hits stores in the US on April 25. The boy wonder stayed true to his whimsical ways via girlie printed skirts, lamé swimwear, cool pant suits, and his specialty: flirty frocks. The collection differs from his past collaboration with Australian Target which was far more serious in style and colour palette — 'member that? Start taking notes for overseas friends, pronto!
