Global Watch: eBay Launches Virtual Outlet Mall

Shoppers in the UK can now log onto eBay rather than wait in line at a warehouse sale to get hold of designer bargains. eBay.co.uk has launched a virtual outlet mall with brands like Kookaï, House of Fraser and Ted Baker all listing their sale stock on the auction site for affordable 'Buy It Now' prices. Other big brands, such as department store Debenhams, are tipped to follow suit.

Richard Kanareck, communications director at eBay, said: "We've launched the fashion outlet because shoppers tell us they want more of the eBay deals they love, but from high street brands, not just small businesses and individuals." Despite being best known for its auctions, eBay's fixed-price item sales now represent more than half of the transactions. A quick hunt through the sale stock saw me find a great pair of grey lace-up boots by Office on sale for about $100 and a cute flower-print smock by Kookai for about $45, both which deliver internationally. Someone say buy it now?

There was a three hour wait at the Hermès sample sale in New York recently, where things got so heated a shouting match ensued when a pregnant lady attempted to cut the line. I've definitely experienced some caa-raazy sample sale lines locally including the infamous Sass and Bide and Lover sales (do people camp out for those, seriously?). How about you? How long have you waited to save a buck at a sample sale?
