Jessica Biel is no girlie girl — she said so herself in US Glamour's July issue — so it's refreshing to see her in so many super-femme ensembles during The A Team promotions. During their latest stop in Paris, Jessica opted to wear a navy-and-black Erin Fetherston jumpsuit from the Spring collection. Not only does it have a ruffle lapel, but it also boasts a large bow belt. She certainly has the body for it, but do you love or loathe Jess in this look?
Avatar's Zoe Saldana looked like quite the leading lady in this ruffled-edge Givenchy lavender-toned gown. Simple drop earrings, a matching purple cocktail ring and T-bar heels complete her look. I'm not sure what I think about the bedazzled bust line — a little too OTT for me, but the bottom half is red carpet perfection. What do you think of this Oscars look?
Fashion’s hottest newcomer and Fashion Week first-timer Prabal Gurung had his work cut out for him with Anna Wintour, Zoe Saldana, and Rachel Zoe all sitting front row. Prabal took us from architectural, color-blocked coats to stunning cocktail dresses with puff shoulders and backless gowns with cascading ruffles. Oh la la!
After viewing this Fall '10 collection it's easy to see why Anna Wintour has such a designer crush. Thakoon Panichgul, accidental star of The September Issue, showcased a beautiful Winter range filled with romantic ruffles, textured separates and subtle prints. Fur jackets and trims featured heavily throughout, much to Ms. Wintour's delight no doubt, as did a simple palette of black, grey, and white with the odd splash of brights thrown in.
I'm a big, big fan of this collection. The muted yellow and white ruffled mini-dresses almost brought a tear to my eye, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who'll want to replicate the printed dress + shaggy coat + white tights look come Winter. The beauty about these pieces is that they'll appeal to a wide range of styles and ages; I can easily see Kate Bosworth and Michelle Obama wanting to wear some of this collection soon, can't you? Seems like that Anna Wintour's onto something..
I've spied a number of ruffles on the red carpet recently, which prompted me to get well educated on the best way to wear them. As cute, girly and frilly as they are, the sheer volume can overwhelm and take over an entire outfit, and person for that matter! The Golden Globes and recent Art of Elysium event were both frill-arama this year ̶ Chloë Sevigny went soft and layered, Jennifer Morrison chose to wear hers all over, Anna Paquin liked them short and fluffy, while Camille Belle went for maximum impact with bold, oversized frills. All so romantic! Keep reading to see how you can add a little ruffle into your wardrobe easily (without looking like a toilet roll cover). read more
From Chloë Sevigny in Valentino to Christina Hendricks in Christian Siriano, gowns adorned with dramatic ruffles ruled the red carpet at the 2010 Golden Globes. Newcomer Anna Kendrick also shined in a one-shoulder ruffled dress by Marchesa. Watch FabTV correspondent Louise highlight ruffles as the trend to watch during this year's award show season!
Is it just me, or have Leighton's looks been a tad confusing lately? One minute she's working a come-hither expression with underwear as outerwear, Gaga style, the next, a pretty and frilly pastel frock with a butter-wouldn't-melt-in-her-mouth smirk. I guess the girl likes to experiment, but which style suits her best?
Worn by the likes of Beyonce, Rachel Bilson, Nicole Richie and Mischa Barton, Aussie label One Teaspoon has returned to the glory days of grunge with their 2010 Autumn/Winter collection. Starring leading model Emma Balfour as the face, the range welcomes an eclectic mix of roughed up denim, studded leather and military touches. Never one to stick to a standard trend, designer Jamie Blakey has also included girly touches with ruffles and stand-out dresses also featuring.
It's no wonder the label is embraced by leading department stores worldwide, including a concession store amongst Topshop's Oxford Circus store. Here's an exclusive peek into the Autumn/Winter 2010 look book to get your hearts racing a little.
Hills cutie Audrina Patridge chose a grey ruffled suit for her appearance at the California premiere of Avatar. Never one to blend into the backrgound, Audrina teamed a satin yellow Prada clutch with her cropped trousers and sleeveless jacket, brightening things up a notch. This is definitely a unique look for the star, who often favours fitted styles and mini hemlines. Are you liking the change?
Feeling a little festive? Oscar de la Renta sure is, what else explains the bursts of colour, embellished embroidery and ruffled sleeves he sent sashaying down the runway this week. His Pre-Fall '10 collection was anything but understated, with the designer explaining "Just because times are difficult doesn't mean you have to do austerity with your clothes. Make it fun, make a woman dream and make a woman want to buy."
Oh, how I want to buy! Almost every look featured a statement jacket ranging from cardigans to full length coats, and key accessories including printed scarves and oversized necklaces completed outfits. His signature red carpet worthy gowns also made an appearance, with stand outs including beaded and tulle cream and berry gowns.
