Countdown to NYE: Smoky Eye Essentials

I’ve had a year-long love affair with bright lipstick but for 2013 I’m looking to switch beauty gears and return the focus to my eyes.
Black Smoky Eye Essential Makeup Products

I’ve had a year-long love affair with bright lipstick but for 2013 I’m looking to switch beauty gears and return the focus to my eyes. As a result I’ve had to go back to basics with looks such as the smouldering and sexy black smoky eye, which I’m trying to perfect in time for New Year’s Eve. The funny thing, though, is that its appeal isn’t in its perfectness but in its slightly unkempt appearance. I’ve been practising a few smoky eyes at night with different products to see what goes the distance so I don’t look too dishevelled when the clock strikes midnight. Take Some Styling Inspo from J.Crew's Latest Look Book

The northern hemisphere might be knee-deep in snow right now, but it's not reason we can't put this sartorial styling guide on ice for a few months.

The northern hemisphere might be knee-deep in snow right now, but it's not reason we can't put this sartorial styling guide on ice for a few months. We may not feel like wearing the cosy knits and clever layering from J.Crew's holiday look book right now, but there are some take-home tips that we can put into practise now, and later. Whether you use the festive red on white on camel colour combo for a chic Christmas day look, or want to save that nifty shirt-under-sequin-sweater idea for the cooler months, we think there's plenty of value in flicking through the US chain's latest offering, seasonality be-damned.

How To Nail the Silly Season Dress Codes

With the end of the year comes the silly season, and with the silly season comes a slew of social invitations.

With the end of the year comes the silly season, and with the silly season comes a slew of social invitations. Fun! Not so fun is figuring out what to wear. The Spice Girls reunited yesterday for the premiere of the Viva Forever! musical, and we couldn't help but notice that although the girls looked lovely, they looked like were going to five different events. Avoid any inappropriate-outfit moments by knowing your dress codes, and sticking to them! Here's our silly season styling rules:

  • Find out the dress code. If it's not stated on the invitation, put a call/email/text/carrier pigeon message out to the host to inquire.

Kristen Stewart's Latest Has Us Inspired (and a Little Surprised)

The surprising thing about Kristen Stewart's Jason Wu look at the LA screening of On the Road wasn't that it was lacy, sheer, and nude-paneled (because we know she loves a great play on all three), but that she gave new styling life to an ultra-feminine, high-waisted short.

The surprising thing about Kristen Stewart's Jason Wu look at the LA screening of On the Road wasn't that it was lacy, sheer, and nude-paneled (because we know she loves a great play on all three), but that she gave new styling life to an ultra-feminine, high-waisted short. We love the idea of opting for this masculine-meets-girlie piece over a festive miniskirt, especially when it comes time to get dressed for the silly season ahead. It's an easy (read: comfortable) outfit choice, and it provides considerable texture and dynamic in one fell swoop. But, unlike Kristen, you don't have to follow suit on the matching separates. In fact, implementing a more casual silky blouse with a great statement necklace could be just as impressive, if not more of a styling statement, than going the two-piece-set route. We've got to admit, though, her Barbara Buiheels are the perfect go-between for the girl who doesn't want to part with her flats but needs a footwear punch-up . . . someone kind of like Kristen. The only thing we're going to emphatically suggest here is this: switch it up with shorts (the party-ready kind seen here) for an unexpected fashion twist. Now, all you have to do is shop our favourite pairs below.

Revealed: Kate Bosworth Is the New Face for Topshop

We hate to say, but we knew it!

We hate to say, but we knew it! After some super-sleuth work late on a Friday afternoon, the Sugar crew concluded that Topshop's mystery new face must be Kate Bosworth. Why so sure? Well eagle-eyes Bella spotted her engagement ring in the first clip that was released (press pause around the eight second mark on the second teaser clip). Then we remembered her telling us during her stay in Sydney that she'd recently scored a slew of JW Anderson for Topshop goodies. If the ring fits! Directed by her fiancé Michael Polish, the festive-themed short film for the UK retailer sees Kate sing (yes, she can sing) atop a grand piano whilst wearing a custom-made backless bordeaux cocktail frock. Watch the big reveal, then go back to the sneak-peeks and see if you can see what we saw. Watch Kate walk in a Winterland . . .
