The rumour mill has been working over time this week about a certain possible cameo appearance in Gossip Girl. The cast have been filming in Paris recently gaining much media attention thanks to the amazing wardrobe. Leighton Meester and Blake Lively have both been spotted in a range of chic ensembles, but what could be more chic than hanging out with Karl Lagerfeld? Blake was spotted taking part in a photoshoot for US Vogue at the Ritz alongside Mr. Lagerfeld, but did she manage to persuade him to appear in an episode? I am so excited about this possibility that I've already started imagining how he might fit in to the storyline! Would you like to see Karl appear in an episode of Gossip Girl?
This season city shorts and navy ensembles have been surfacing at multiple menswear shows, from Milan to Paris. Yet creative director Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton doesn't disappoint and delivers a collection that acts like a palate-cleanser, in that it's streamlined, clean and yet sufficiently piquant enough to have us sitting up straight in our seats, wanting ... more. So what's new? Well there's no paisley here or much in the way of florals, but in its place ... manbags aplenty and outfits for urbane globetrotters seeking a tropical holiday. Jump on the bandwagon ... Here, our 10 top looks from the collection.
The stuff of pretty dreams is how one would describe Zac Posen's whimsical resort collection, which seemed entirely more appropriate for a soirée in Cannes than St Tropez's Nikki Beach. Elegant bouclé suits, dainty little cardigans and achingly beautiful eveningwear in a sugared almond palette was the order of the day. The parade was somewhat bittersweet as it was Posen's last showing in New York, next season, he will show in gay Pareé. Rest assured, his coterie of ardent admirers — Olivia Palermo, Anna Kendrick, Leighton Meester et al — will simply follow him there.
We've focused on the clothes, stalked the front row guests and caught wind of all the gossip. Now, it's time to zone in on the models. The Winter collections were filled with unexpected model moments; Victoria's Secret angels at Prada, Elle Macpherson at Louis Vuitton, and catwalk veterans Kristy Hume and Kristen McNenamy at Calvin Klein. But it wasn't all about familiar faces. Polish model Monika Jagaciak, better known as Jac, was the most requested model of Paris Fashion Week at just 16 years of age. Click through our gallery to check out all the model standouts from New York, London, Milan and Paris.
Bonjour! Paris Fashion Week is off to a fine start with Dries van Noten showing last night at the historic Hotel de Ville (where the Mayor of Paris is based), in the Salle des Fetes (fancy schmancy reception room). Known for their ethnic prints and oversized, drapey styles, this season the Belgian designer kept things more feminine with hourglass silhouettes, a nod to the '50s and '60s, sporty chic and a tad of military inspiration.
Khaki shirts, coats and tapered pants were mixed in with leopard print, hand-painted silk and cashmere knits, while masculine tailoring in the form of metallic blazers and sport-style sweats were softened with full skirts and slinky pants. This mismatch of styles was unexpected (much like the front row crowd including Jane Birkin and Jared Leto) but a pleasant surprise.
Kate Moss flirted with black lace for her Longchamp handbag launch in Paris last night, sporting a Valentino LBD, cream cropped jacket and Christian Louboutin pumps. Of course, the ultimate accessory is her new Kate Moss for Longchamp black clutch she's also flaunting. Let's be real, no one works a mini-dress quite like her, and we must take note of her uncanny ability to avoid ridiculous heels and make the simplest of stilettos look amazing. Oh Kate, you've done it again. Thoughts?
The couture shows at Paris Fashion Week have kicked off quite nicely, with Chanel, Givenchy, Armani Prive and Christian Dior already having shown. The collections were impressive, there's no doubt about that, but so too was the celeb spotting. It's almost as exciting watching what the front row wears as the models (shhh, I didn't just say that!). This year, Alexa Chung looked chic and sophisticated in a Chanel linen dress teamed with wooden clogs, Anne Hathaway dazzled in a sleek Armani Prive gown, and Kylie Minogue dressed to impress in a Christian Dior grey suit with bow detail. All so magnifique. Now go grab yourself a croissant, sit back and enjoy the front row stalk.
Over the past year the Queen has honoured some of the biggest names in British fashion (including Christopher Bailey, Anya Hindmarch, Luella Bartley), and now the French are following her lead. It has just been revealed that both Marc Jacobs and Nathalie Rykiel are set to be decorated with the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres today. The French equivalent of a knighthood is to be presented by Culture Minister Frédéric Mitterrand at a ceremony in Paris. Marc has been at the helm of Louis Vuitton since 1997 and since then the company has quadrupled its worth. Nathalie has long been a part of her Mother's Sonia Rykiel brand and recently orchestrated a collaboration with H&M. Congratulations to both of them!
