The Buyers' View: Shopbop's Jenny & Justin Talk Fashion Week

During the madness of fashion week we were lucky enough to sit down briefly with Shopbop's delightfully upbeat buyers Jenny Fuchs and Juster Warner.

During the madness of fashion week we were lucky enough to sit down briefly with Shopbop's delightfully upbeat buyers Jenny Fuchs and Juster Warner. From the great heels-versus-flats debate, to MBFWA's new home, to their take on our local blogger pack, we had quite the chat. . .

    • What shows have you seen, and liked, so far? Jenny: We’ve seen so many! I think they’ve all been really good and as the week goes on, one is just better than the last. I think the ones for me that have stood out have been the ones that have been a little more transitional. The ones that are too Spring/Summer-ish are harder for us to buy into, but the ones that have bridged the gap with layering pieces and jackets and some leathers  I think those would be the ones that we will probably go after.
    • Do you have any favourite designers from the week? Justin: I think that there was consistently strong showing across the board. From our designer boutique, I already do buy Ellery and Dion Lee and I was very happy with them. Jenny: They were awesome!
    • Any recurring trends that you’ve spotted on the runway? Jenny: There are a lot of digital and graphic prints

Editors' Picks: Fashion Week Inspired Buys

Sore feet (and backs!) aside, fashion week left us with a tonne of new season inspiration.

Sore feet (and backs!) aside, fashion week left us with a tonne of new season inspiration. The big trends and hottest colours indicate that Spring/Summer 2013-'14 is going to be a very slick season, sartorially speaking, so I was keen to ask what pearlers from the runway made the most impact on our POPSUGAR editorial team. The actual threads may not be hitting stores until June/July, but that won't stop us from nabbing the new season looks now. Credit cards at the ready? OK, you're all set to shop the runway.

Jesinta Campbell at Suboo

MBFWA has almost come to a close! But not before we saw some stunning hair and makeup inspiration from the likes of Suboo and Akira. We weren’t the only ones wowed by the colour from Suboo’s morning show, as it attracted some gorgeous ladies to the front row. Jesinta Campbell and Zoe Balbi played with pretty pink lip colour, while tousled, wavy locks were seen on the likes of Kate Waterhouse, Casey Burgess and Nikki Phillips. We’re almost at the end so check out some final celebrity beauty looks at Fashion Week, and don’t forget to catch up on all our MBFWA fashion and beauty reports.

2012 MBFWA: Top Knots and Waves at Toi et Moi

Stephen Seago (KMS California) created two different looks for the Toi et Moi show: one up, one down.

Stephen Seago (KMS California) created two different looks for the Toi et Moi show: one up, one down. The up 'do was a "casual, sexy, shabby-chic" top knot which Seago styled using KMS California Root and Body Lift and lots of back-brushing, and the second, natural-looking waves, were created using a 22mm tong and Sea Salt Spray. The makeup, by Maria Gabriel (Make Up Store), was inspired by France (naturellement) and took on a black and white theme with a wash of white on the lids and thick black winged eyeliner. Skin was given that sheer, luminous glow that we've seen almost every show thanks to Base Prep, an primer with pearlescent accents. Picking out a soft coral from the collection, Gabriel used the coordinating Crust Lipstick which looks prettier than it sounds!

2012 MBFWA: Front Row Beauty Looks Day 1

Day one of MBFWA provided us with a wide spectrum of hair and makeup looks to add to our inspiration boards, from the pretty pastel shades at Lisa Maree to the bold, superhero looks at Romance Was Born.

Day one of MBFWA provided us with a wide spectrum of hair and makeup looks to add to our inspiration boards, from the pretty pastel shades at Lisa Maree to the bold, superhero looks at Romance Was Born. While we may not be brave enough to wear the thick blue liner and bright red hair from RWB just yet, we do love the softer beauty looks modelled by the celebrities sitting front row at the show. Lara Bingle, Kate Waterhouse, Sophie Lowe and more proved that dewy skin was the celeb makeup must-have of the day, while Jenny Kee and Whitney Port’s red lips were another look to love. See how the stars did MBFWA beauty . . .

2012 MBFWA: Gail Sorronda Channels 1920s Charm

Bec Prior (Napoleon Perdis) was inspired by the 1920s when creating the slightly dark and quirky makeup look for Gail Sorronda.

Bec Prior (Napoleon Perdis) was inspired by the 1920s when creating the slightly dark and quirky makeup look for Gail Sorronda. It focused on a statement lip that looks as though it's smirking. Faux lashes were also used to balance the look and again emphasise the doll-like feel of the entire look. Jon Pulitano (Redken) countered with an equally striking hairstyle. Theatrical and inspired by "old world charm," Pulitano created "wraps around the contour of the models' heads" that were similar to wig caps. Take a closer look now.

2012 MBFW: Clean Lines and Cascading Cobwebs at Toni Maticevski

With a collection that centred around a play on opposites — exuberance and restraint, sheer and heavy — Jayne Wild (ghd) created a flowing style which she likening to "cascading like cobwebs" for Toni Maticevski's S/S 2012 presentation.

With a collection that centred around a play on opposites — exuberance and restraint, sheer and heavy — Jayne Wild (ghd) created a flowing style which she likening to "cascading like cobwebs" for Toni Maticevski's S/S 2012 presentation. The floaty freeness of the ultra-long length was juxtaposed with two polished ponytail-like sections to really echo the collection's message. Napoleon Perdis paired it with bespoke makeup for all models with luminosity across the board.

2012 MBFWA: Carla Zampatti

Carla Zampatti's own home played host to her Spring/Summer 2012-13 preview, creating an intimate feel to the off-schedule show.
Review and Pictures of Carla Zampatti Spring Summer 2012-13 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Runway Show

Carla Zampatti's own home played host to her Spring/Summer 2012-13 preview, creating an intimate feel to the off-schedule show. The grand foyer and sunshine-filled rooms transported guests to a Hollywood Hills mansion, circa 1970, complete with celebrity house guests. The clothes kept up their end of the glamorous deal, as floor-sweeping maxi dresses with halterneck fronts or racer-cut backs glided past. Her loyal ladies-who-lunch clientele were kept happy with the classically tailored jackets, fluid sheaths and ladylike separates, whilst Carla surprised with her first (and rather sexy) swimwear line. One pieces were slashed to the navel, or asymmetrically cut, for true poolside glamour; modesty retained with sheer organza coats that would work equally well for after-dark as for a daytime dip. A concise bridal capsule capped off the show in draped tulle, with pastel spliced design adding the final dramatic touch.

  • Trends: Pastels, relaxed tailoring, sheer, midriffs, metallic brocade, jumpsuits.
  • Colours: Powder blue, musk pink, white, cream, tangerine, black and navy.
  • Key Looks: Grecian chiffon gowns, a sheer flocked crop top and high waisted skirt in tangelo, the swimsuits.
  • Accessories: Jan Logan singular stud and drop pearl earrings, PeepToe two strap stilettos.
  • Front Row: Barry Humphries, Alyssa Sutherland, Lisa Wilkinson, Sophie Falkiner, Terry Biviano and Yasmin Sewell.
