To no one's surprise, Gossip Girl'srebel child, Taylor Momsen, was revealed as the face of Madonna's Material Girl collection. So just how was she chosen by Madonna to be the face of the brand? "I was ecstatic to be asked. It's such an honour. It's Madonna. I was kind of shocked. She's amazing. The role entails doing the launch of the line on Aug. 3 at Herald Square. And I'll be tweeting and talking about the line. We did a photo shoot for the first pieces of the collection. It's a really great line. It's really cool," said Momsen. Taylor on being a fan of Madonna's music and fashion. All her songs are so great. They’re so well crafted and really perfect, pure, pop genius. I'm a big fan of "Papa Don't Preach." I love that song. But really all of it is fantastic. She was the one who did it all first. She gave people like me an avenue to do what I'm doing. She was the one who started all the controversy to begin with. I'm a big fan of all kinds of vintage looks and altering them and making them modern. I don't know if I copy anything directly, but I like to mix and match and play around a lot. The hype has been huge ... we've seen the initial sketches, but we've been waiting with baited breath to see how Madonna's Material Girl Collection for Macy's has turned out. So here it is folks ... a sneak peek at what Madge and daughter Lola have been working on these past few months and it's been quite the project. Madonna's favourite looks from her Desperately Seeking Susan, Like a Virgin and American Life days have been referenced and tweaked by Lola, and boy is it comprehensive! Expect clothing, shoes, bags, jewellery, hair accessories and more for teens and hot young things. The masstige line is slated to launch on August 3 in Macy's America-wide. Brace yourself for the launch lead up; a hot teen actress will soon be revealed as the label's face and the winner of a national comp to mark the event (staged by Macy's) will get the chance to meet with both Madge and Lola in NYC. Glad to hear that Madonna's remained true to her own style advice when it comes to expressing herself.
It's not so hard to believe, now is it? Gaultier did make Madonna's racy cone-bra for her Blonde Ambition tour back in the '90s. And after a 30-year break from small lacy things, the designer is easing back into the lingerie game and who better to partner up with than Italian house, La Perla? The 27-piece limited-edition (and mostly handmade) collection will hit stores worldwide in November. So what to expect? Naughty knickers, waist-cinching corsets and bras, inspired by the infamous cone, which comes in a mostly pink-and-black colour palette (with accents of duck-egg blue and coral for added excitement). Need to know more? One or two pieces will debut on July 7 at Gaultier's couture show in Paris.
Back in Feb, it was announced that Madge was adding designer to her resume. Then she dished her inspiration, daughter Lourdes, and now the first sketches are out. It's quite cutesy and colourful, but bear in mind that the target audience is girls aged 13 to 25. I can totally see Lourdes rocking all of these with her Converse sneakers. It's rather '80s with a mod update. The Material Girl collection, retailing from approx $14 to $46, will hit Macy's in August.
Madge does a sterling job of chanelling the sexy grieving Sicilian widow seeking solace in the arms of her son another young cutie in Dolce & Gabbana's latest campaign. I'm a sucker for a Dolce & Gabbana LBD—the corseting does wonders for a gal's curves, and while I'm sure it doesn't come cheap, these babies (like a Birkin) have become a fashion classic over the years. Naturally, Madge's favourite snapper Steven Klein is behind the campaign. Do you like or loathe the new ad?
Those Disney kids. Seems the only way they can project an older image is through the shedding of clothes. This isn’t the first time Miley’s stripped off her garb (and innocence) in favour of something sexier, but her look backstage at the MuchMusic Awards in Canada still gives us something to talk about. She opted for a cutout mesh bodysuit and super-short shorts paired with striped socks and a headscarf. Looks like she’s still loving her Alexander Wang peep-toe booties as well. It's sooo Madonna, circa 1980, only difference being Mads wasn’t 17 at the time. And then there’s that makeup . . . What do you think? Do you rate Miley’s racy look?
Catch Sunglass Hut ambassador Rachel Bilson cavorting on set in LA as she models new-season styles ... Inspired by looks from icons such as Brigitte Bardot (FYI: the white pussy-bow blouse she sports is by our very own Nicola Finetti), Madge's Material Girl and the perenially cool Debbie Harry. Can a girl have too many pairs of aviators? We think not ...
Lady Gaga's latest video hasn't even been revealed yet and it's already causing a stir. This time, she has recruited famed fashion photographer Steven Klein to ensure she makes an impact (will it be bigger than the Telephone hype?). The whole thing will be unveiled in the next week, but for now here is a teaser. Similarities to Madonna's collaborations with Klein are obvious. I can't wait to hear what you think!
A few months ago I was telling you about Madonna's collaboration with Dolce & Gabbana to create a collection of sunglasses under the MDG logo, and now, the first video ad campaign has been revealed. The steamy scene shows Madonna wearing oversized shades, a sexy male model (Tyson Ballou) and some serious lip locking to a dramatic drum and bass tune. The MDG ad campaign was shot by Steven Klein and was created to "evoke the essence of a star such as Madonna: admired, spied, adored, pursued, and desired, but never fully revealed, shrouded as she is in dark glasses and mystery." This is the first collection personally designed by the singer together with Domenico Dolce and Steffano Gabbana. Steamy.
