Their practical uses aside, a trending pair of statement shades has the ability to instantly update a not-so-hot outfit, hide tired eyes and show your support for some of the coolest designers out (hello Karen Walker). And because nothing heralds the arrival of Spring (and soon to be Summer) quite like a new sunglasses trend, we're spotlighting the season's must-have shape: round. You can pack away those cat eye shades and store the aviators for another season, because Spring is all about the circular shape.
Do you relegate denim to the jeans-only department of your wardrobe? Yes? Well, it might be time to think (and shop) outside the square. This season denim is the fabrication du jour, giving a versatility boost to your favourite off-duty staples. Button-downs are toughened up, dresses get a utilitarian twist and pencil skirts are freed of the office-only vibe. The upside of this denim domination is that coordination becomes a cinch: any colour goes with this hard-working fabric! This season's best newbie denim buys are a mere click of the mouse away. Walk this way. . .
This week's denim special woudn't be complete without a keen edit of this season's strongest denim trends, now would it? If you're after a new pair of jeans that have a point of difference, consider the following your essential online shopping guide. From the new super-distressed baggies, to sexy high-shine finishes, to the only colour you should be investing in for Autumn/Winter '13 — it's all here in one easy to click place. Put your feet up and let your fingers do the walking... or clicking. Your new denim wardrobe starts here.
Pulling on your favourite pair of denim jeans feels like coming home after a long day. They fit you perfectly and always make you feel good about yourself. But the only way to find that elusively perfect pair is often through (a lot) of trial and error. To help you on the journey, I've asked our editorial team to spill on the brands that make their absolute denim favourites. Be it rip-torn perfection or a pair of super-comfy skinnies that you're looking for, we hope that our tried-and-true suggestions can help you find your new favourites.
New season = new trends! Which are you game to try? I quizzed our editorial team to see which Autumn/Winter game-changers they were prepared to splash the cash on. From a chain-store take on the leather jogger to some fairly fancy flats, to doing the matchy-matchy look (on purpose), take a peek at the freshest fashion trends that have swayed us for the coming season.
There's something about blue jeans. The staple wardrobe item has never really gone out of style, but we're looking at the classic blue hue in a whole new light. Forget black, put your white skinnies on hold for a second, save the indigo for next year — because it's the mid-to-light blue denim spectrum that looks suddenly fresh. Whether you want to try out this season's rip/torn trend, give the super-baggy boyfriend style a whirl, or prefer to stick to your tried-and-true skinny leg style, we've rounded up the best denim brands to know and own. Doesn't every girl want to be a blue jean baby?
The local Autumn/Winter campaigns keep-a-coming, which is fine by us considering this week's home-grown fashion focus. Top of today's pile is Ksubi's new season look book, which although shot on location in a French chateau employs the Australian talents of ANTM winner Montana Cox in front of the lens and the styling skills of Vogue's Christine Centenera behind it — with Sydney-based snapper Darren McDonald calling the shots. The threads? It's a little less I'm-with-the-band 'tude than we're used to seeing from Ksubi, with leather, statement graphic baroque/brocade prints and sleeker silhouettes making everything a touch more polished, but in a tough-girl kinda way. Due to drop in-stores and online as of Feb, we think it's well worth taking in a preview show.
The Big Day Out has rolled into Sydney town, and if you're lucky enough to have tickets for tomorrow's show — we've got a lil' somthing for you. Dressing correctly for a music festival is key, and we're not just talking about choosing your tortoiseshell aviators over your reflective frogskins here. Festival fashion needs to be functional enough to get you through a day of outdoor gigs and sweaty moshpitts. The following edit is culled from our/your favourite chain stores, so you'll be able to do a late-night-shopping dash after work and get your kit sorted, head to toe.
