Jessica Marais got to work on the new ABC1 telemovie Carlotta on the show’s Sydney set today. The actress will portray the titular character, the famous Les Girls headliner Carol “Carlotta” Byron, who was born a boy called Richard but always felt like a girl trapped in a boy’s body. Carlotta, who is acting as a story consultant on the drama, had a big hand in the casting of Jessica. She told the Sunday Telegraph, “I wanted her. I was a fan of the Rafters. They were making suggestions and I said: ‘I know who is perfect for the role,’” citing Jessica’s physical resemblance and voice. Today Jessica got into character with dark eye makeup and a wig covering her darker hair — for her part she said she was “humbled” to be given the role.

Kristen was caught cheating on Rob with her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, and just days before the story leaked she was at the Teen Choice Awards with her on- and off-screen Twilight boyfriend. In other A-list outings, it was a big week for Hollywood babies! Jessica Marais and James Stewart hit the shops with two-month-old Scout, while 1-year-old Harper Beckham enjoyed a London lunch with mum Victoria and dad David. Katy Perry also made the most of a sunny Miami holiday, lounging poolside in a black bikini. There were plenty more screenings, parties and baby-filled strolls — step inside to see them all.

Jessica Marais and James Stewart took their baby daughter Scout shopping for some groceries in Sydney today. The two-month-old stayed close to her mother, who affectionately kissed her head, in a baby carrier, as James toted nappies and the rest of their shopping. The former Packed to the Rafters stars, who are engaged, said that they were going to move to the US with baby Scout so Jessica could resume work on the second season of Magic City. Jess said she would healthily lose the baby weight she’d put on as her sexy role in the series involves nudity, but she revealed that she’d only gained 7kg during her pregnancy due to healthy snack cravings. The family debuted their dark-haired girl in Who a week after she was born, and also shared the inspiration behind her name.

Proud new parents Jessica Marais and James Stewart have shared the first picture of their week-old baby girl with Who, which is on sale now. Scout Edie Stewart was born in Sydney on May 9, and Jessica and James revealed the story behind how her name was chosen. Jessica said, “To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favourite novels, my mum brought me up reading it, and it never fails to move me.” It’s also a tribute to her late father, Tony, because Atticus Finch, Scout’s father in the novel, reminded Jessica of him. They also liked the name because it worked for a boy or girl, and the engaged couple, who met on the set of Packed to the Rafters and shared an onscreen romance, had decided to keep the gender a surprise until the birth. Physically, little Scout bears a strong resemblance to her father but James said she has “her mum’s lips and my nose.” Congrats to the family!

Jessica Marais has given birth to a baby girl!

Jessica Marais has given birth to a baby girl! The former Packed to the Rafters actress and fiancé James Stewart welcomed their first child yesterday and named her Scout, with their rep saying, “It is with much joy and pride that Jessica Marais and James Stewart announce the birth of their baby girl, Scout Edie Stewart.” It was reported yesterday that Jessica had checked into Sydney’s Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

James recently confirmed that he’ll be leaving Rafters to focus on raising their baby girl while Jess works on the second season of her US show Magic City. He said the family will be “moving to America not long after the baby is born — probably three or four weeks. It’s a pretty massive deal, but we have to do it.” Congrats to Jessica and James!
