Only 2 sleeps to go! New York Fashion Week is only days away and I'm quite, (ok, ridiculoulsy) excited...can you tell? I've been looking back at last year's parades to get me in the mood and there are certainly a few key players which I can't wait to see again this year. Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Rodarte.. you get my drift. How about you; are there any shows which you're hanging to see most?
Don't forget to check back to FAB this week for a full roundup of all the shows, trends and celebrities from New York Fall '10 Fashion Week!
New York Fashion Week is one week away and counting! Before the madness begins, let's go through the designers we're most excited to see. Proenza Schouler and Alexander Wang are at the top of our list, but this season we're also anxious to see the next round of dazzling designers, including Jason Wu and Prabal Gurung. Enter to find out who we're hanging to see!
On hand to lend their star support for the Entertainment Industry Foundation's Cancer Research Fund, Reese Witherspoon, Taylor Swift, Olivia Wilde and Molly Sims all stepped out in above-the-knee frocks to help the cause.
All four stars went for elegant simplicity, but who scrubbed up best? Reese Witherspoon chose a lace overlay Jason Wu dress, while cute-as-a-button Taylor Swift went for vibrant red in a Valentino number. Olivia Wilde teamed tough black heels with her grey body-con mini, and Molly Sims chose a more demure purple frock for the occasion. Decisions, decisions.
Diane Kruger rocks the 2010 Critics' Choice Awards red carpet in her white Donna Karan romantic floor-length gown. Avatar star, Zoe Saldana, goes short and sweet in a showstopping Jason Wu belted minidress, and Marion Cotillard shines in a Christian Dior bustier and sequin skirt ensemble. A white-hot night at the CCAs!
Quite a few impressed, but 15 renegades stood out as artisans and advocates of our favorite industry. These are the tastemakers, trendsetters and troublemakers. Men and women, singles and duos, inspiration oozes out of these individuals, from their fingers, onto the paper, into the fabric, and, eventually, onto the runway. Let's take a walk through designer heaven and salute a fabulously fashionable decade!
OK - this post is downright hurting my eyes. The beauty! The Chanel! The bows! The heels! I want whatever she's having. Seriously, has Diane Kruger ever put a fashion foot wrong? She always manages to perfectly mix on trend styles with her signature feminine chic. How does someone so polished manage to look so effortless?
Favouring full skirts and mini lengths (why wouldn't you with those legs), her girly style always manages to look sexy rather than cutesy. Take her Spring 2010 Chanel tweed and floral dress from the recent Golden Globe announcements - so youthful, and mixed with a messy up 'do she's on a one way train to awesomeville. Same goes with her red Jason Wu mini dress, umm, just quietly, I need that dress! And don't even get me started on her olive Christopher Kane number worn to the Venice Film Festival this September. Clearly Santa went a little crazy with the eggnog and totally messed up MY Christmas request with hers. Right, rant over. Diane Kruger, you knock our red carpet socks off.
You've checked out Oscar de la Renta's offerings, now let me to dump another load of Pre-Fall pretties in your lap(top). While some designers went on a more serious route , (Jason Wu left the frills at home this time around and Thakoon went urban), some still delivered opulence. Thank you Donna Karan, D&G and Carolina Herrera! Their luxurious, sexy, colourful, and rich confections gave Wintery pieces a much needed boost; without them, Pre-Fall would be a lonely place. Check out the gallery to see what I mean. Source
With all the (much deserved) hoopla surrounding Jason Wu, it's only fitting that the designer is debuting a sparkling new website. Take a peek at JasonWuStudio.com for a behind the seams glance at Wu's creative madness- inspiration boards, model dressings, and runway videos. Still need more to quench your thirst? There's also an awesome blog featuring info on Wu's upcoming collections and fun photos of celebs wearing his latest threads. Woot, woot for Wu!
There's more reason to love Wu now that the designer has taken on a new project: designing a capsule collection for Tse. “When she [Tse's CEO, Christina Peng-Gerschultz] asked me if I wanted to do a capsule [line], I thought, ‘This could be interesting,’” said Wu. “In many ways, I am probably the least expected designer to do this, because Tse’s aesthetic is so different from my own, but that’s one reason I wanted to do it.” The collection will be comprised of woven and knitwear pieces dipped in colorful hues. Tse, who currently works with Wu on producing his knitwear pieces, will debut the Fall '10 limited-edition capsule collection in February during New York Fashion Week. Prices are TBD, but we do know the line will hit Tse stores in July.
I couldn't help but ask myself, "Would Michelle Obama wear that?", while checking out Jason Wu's tantalizing Spring collection. Indeed, I saw a couple pretty dresses that Michelle would jump for, but his creations aren't just for the First Lady. Any cutie would be so lucky to don his array of youthful separates and magical frocks. For separates, the designer dreamt up a range of sporty, yet polished tweed suits, chambray tops, metallic pleated skirts, and a ton of fun prints. Dresses varied from romantic shapes adorned with frothy feathers and intricate ruffles, to polished streamlined sheaths, and flirty cocktail dresses.
For color, Wu accompanied vibrant hues of coral, purple, blues, deep yellow, and pink with classic neutral tones. To offset the bold colors, the designer kept his shapes structured and modern. All together a very wearable, very wonderful collection — I cant wait until Spring! 2009 was a great year for Wu but I'm thinking 2010 might be even greater.
