This look goes great over smouldering dark eyes or you can use it to enhance your natural eye shape. Let's go!

1. The right liner: Choosing the right eyeliner is crucial to getting the perfect winged-tip. A liquid eyeliner like Dior, Diorshow Art Pen ($59) is great choice as the felt-tip applicator makes it easy to create nice thin to thick lines in a single sweeping stroke. Keep reading!

Tailoring Talk: The 11 Most-Used Terms to Add to Your Fashion Vocab

It's safe to say most occupations employ a vernacular all their own — fashion speak, legalese, and medical jargon immediately come to mind — so it goes without saying that heading to the tailor requires a certain level of terminology know-how too.

It's safe to say most occupations employ a vernacular all their own — fashion speak, legalese, and medical jargon immediately come to mind — so it goes without saying that heading to the tailor requires a certain level of terminology know-how too. That is, unless you want your pant leg to be darted instead of hemmed. No need to be embarrassed about your current tailor-talk knowledge: this is a glossary safe zone. Is there a difference between bespoke and custom pieces? What is a vent? No, it's not an air filter we're referring to. When do you "take something in" as opposed to requesting darts — or do you do both? Is a cutter something scary? Read on for tailoring-term enlightenment and insurance against any further miscommunications.

  • Baste — Basting is kind of like the bread and butter of tailoring and altering a piece of clothing. It describes the action of sewing long, easily removable stitches that are used to mock up a fitting, hold into a zipper into place, and keep slippery fabrics from moving. The next time your tailor is stitching you into something, chances are they're basting.
  • Bespoke — A bespoke piece of clothing refers to a garment made from scratch to fit a customer's specific measurements and requirements. Its origin dates back to the days of London's Savile Row, when a customer ordering a garment would select and reserve a cloth or fabric, which automatically made it "bespoken" or "spoken for." Thus, there's no difference between bespoke and custom wares, as both speak to a totally personalised experience. More often, people get confused between bespoke and made-to-measure goods. Made-to-measure pieces are tailored from a standard-sized pattern mold; while the end result can be tailored to fit your body, the initial piece of fabric was not made especially for you.
  • Cutter — Contrary to the sound of it, a cutter is the person who measures and fits the customer. From there, he or she makes a pattern from the measurements and observations of the customer's figure and posture.

An Easy Heart Nail Design to DIY

Valentine's Day offers the perfect excuse to have unapologetically girlie, romantic nails, like this dainty pink look accented with a bright pink heart and pretty polka dots.

Valentine's Day offers the perfect excuse to have unapologetically girlie, romantic nails, like this dainty pink look accented with a bright pink heart and pretty polka dots. This sweet manicure has different elements happening at once, but it's easy to create and even easier to wear. First, I polished two coats of Deborah Lippmann in Prelude to a Kiss (get similiar by using Chanel Le Vernis Nail Varnish in Emprise) to form a pink base. Next, I used a white nail art pen to dab on the delicate spots. If you already have a white polish, you can use that and the tip of a pencil to create the tiny dots. Once my ring finger polish was completely dry, I used this tutorial to form a heart-shaped stencil with tape. I finished by painting on Mac Cosmetics Nail Lacquer in Steamy ($22) to create the bright pink accent. Go ahead and wear your heart on your fingertips!

New York fashion week is here!

New York fashion week is here! Leading up to the big day, many designers are busy testing their Fall 2013 runway beauty looks. BCBG Max Azria let us take a peek at their beauty test, where cool girl Kate Moss served as inspiration. For the runway, models were adorned in beanies with lightly glazed terracotta lips and a soft smoky eye, creating a natural, subtle look. Bumble and Bumble's Laurent Philippon describes the hair as being made to look as if "she had been travelling." One key to getting a smoky eye at home without too much effort? "Use a pencil," says makeup artist Val Garland.

Jessica Chastain Proves Thick Black Liner Can Look Chic, Not Goth

Well-lined lids with a thick, inky black liner can feel gothic fast, but Jessica Chastain shows us that not only can pale complexions and redheads pull off the look, but you can also make it feel feminine, too.

Well-lined lids with a thick, inky black liner can feel gothic fast, but Jessica Chastain shows us that not only can pale complexions and redheads pull off the look, but you can also make it feel feminine, too. The secret is balance. Yesterday, at The Hollywood Reporter party, Jessica paired her black eyeliner with a soft pink palette: shimmering shadow, pink lips, flushed cheeks, and soft waves. Her eyeliner, on the other hand, gave the look a seriously sexy edge.

To pull it off, reach for a liquid liner like Nars Eyeliner Stylo in Black ($44) for a clean line like Jessica's. Swipe on a powder pink blush to the apples of your cheeks and then apply Ck One Color Pure Lipstick in Dollface ($35). The pale pinks will balance out the black liner in the perfect way, plus it won't clash with lighter hair or skin tones. So shelve your browns; there's a new liner in town.
