It's pretty safe to say that the warm season has well and truly arrived now! Stealing time for sun-drenched lunches in the park, we've been on top of all the 2013 Emmy Awards action, the style at the 2013 Brownlow Medal and the exciting Australia's Next Top Model finale, and that's just for starters! We've also been swimming (literally and figuratively) in beautiful new products that are perfect for the upcoming Summer. Lilya got us straight into the swing of things with a gorgeous bikini, Stella McCartney's bright new lingerie turned the heat up, and we can't get enough of the limited edition Eight Hour Cream collection that's in stores now. Jennifer Hawkins, and the cute couple from Karmin rounded out our busy week — click through to see all our photos, and don't forget to follow POPSUGAR Australia on Instagram!
When the models in Dion Lee's Spring/Summer 2013 private show made their appearance, we were completely focused on the clothing. . . until the models turned around. There, perched on the back of their heads, were divine slivers of silver cutting across their straightened locks. Call them head braces or call them halos — either way, they're hands-down the coolest way to accessorise right now. The silver ones featured in Dion's show are from cult Aussie jewellery label Sarah & Sebastian, but chain stores are embracing the trend, too. And it's not all about halos — click through our gallery and you'll see that cool metal headwear can take on many forms. From shell-shaped clips to gold spears, bun crowns and more, the opportunities are endless. This way. . .
The Great Gatsby finally hit Australian screens today, and to say our high expectations were met is a bit of an understatement. The glitz! The glamour! It's the 1920s on steroids, and it's fair to say that the jewels and headpieces nearly stole the show. From art deco earrings to onyx rings and pearl tassels, it's a veritable feast of incredibly beautiful pieces — no wonder, considering Tiffany & Co. designed the whole lot. We may not all be able to afford Daisy Buchanan's — Carey Mulligan's character — divine headpiece, pictured above (it's, um, the price of a house), but we can all take inspiration from it. You can see all the Tiffany & Co. pieces in store in Sydney, but in the meantime, click through to add some flapper-glam to your collection now!
Looking for a little something top off your wedding day look (literally)? Then you might need to meet Jennifer Behr. The New York-based accessory designer specialises in head ornamentation of the prettiest kind. Her handmade, delicate pieces are uniquely feminine without falling into the glitzy/ostentatious/scary category of bridal headwear. Dainty headbands, heirloom-looking barrettes and fascinators with more flirt than fluff — we couldn't recommend her latest Spring/Summer 2013 collection more. Not walking down the aisle? You'll still benefit from checking out her line of races-appropriate head candy.
It seems Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning had the same idea at the GLAAD Media Awards on the weekend — it's all about a blonde in a headband. Kirsten paired her leather Emilio Pucci LBD with smoky eye makeup and a satin ribbon hairband. Her hair had a voluminous tease at the crown and tucked-in bangs giving a nod to the '60s. On the other hand, Elle wore a modern middle part with a Jennifer Behr Delicate Vine Circlet (approximately $485) for an enchanting look. Which look do you prefer: Kirsten's retro style or Elle's sweet, modern take?
"If you don't want the headband to look like its simply plopped on top of the head, place it on the head before you pull the hair back to form your French twist," said celebrity stylist Devin Toth of the Ted Gibson Salon in New York City. "This will hide the bottom tips of the headband, making the accessory look more natural and elegant." So whether you're a let-your-hair-down type or you like to style your hair in a ponytail, up 'do, or braid, adding a statement hairpiece will get you party-ready fast and loads of compliments, too.
