There was no tribute more fitting for the 50th anniversary viewing of Cleopatra — and to the film's stars, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton — than Jessica Chastain wearing one of Taylor's Bulgari necklaces at the Cannes premiere. It was a gift given to Taylor by Burton on her 40th birthday, in 1972. The sapphire-and-diamond sautoir (with a 65-carat centre stone) is part of an eight-piece collection that the jewellery house bought back from Taylor's 2011 Christie's auction, and these pieces have rarely been loaned to celebrities. "I feel so lucky to be wearing them. They looked so fabulous on her and she was a movie star from her head to her toes," said Chastain. "That kind of glamorous star doesn't exist anymore but their diamonds do." An all-angles look at the stunning Bulgari necklace, here in the gallery.
Coco Rocha stepped onto the Met Gala red carpet in unique get-up, wearing a vintage Givenchy outfit that previously belonged to the late Elizabeth Taylor. Coco looked stunning in the offbeat ensemble, consisting of a hot-pink bodice attached to bright yellow cropped trousers and a matching yellow beaded jacket. She accessorized with salmon-hued heels, a bold diamond ring, and a simple gold clutch. Her most major accessory, however, was easily her hot-pink hair. What do you think of Coco's vintage ensemble?

We usually see her on the red carpet sporting blue hair, crazy nails and lots of lashes, but Katy Perry's been given a retro makeover for the March issue of Interview magazine. With thick black brows and elaborate winged liner, her look harks back to a young Elizabeth Taylor. We're loving the beautiful, sexy and occasionally provocative images by Mikael Jansson. They show a different side to Katy — and we're about to hear a different side to her music too, with the "Part of Me" singer revealing to her interviewer, Kristin Wiig, that her music's about to get "dark" since her recent divorce from Russell Brand. What do you think of her latest look?

Sure, poodle perms, frosted shadows and brick red lipstick might look a little dated now, but they were the winged eyeliner of their day, so we need to give them the beauty props they deserve. Kim Kardashian has made no secret of her love for Elizabeth Taylor, whom she considered to be the "epitome of old school Hollywood glamour." For the second time in recent months, the Keeping With The Kardashian star has channelled the late actress, taking to Twitter to show off an image from her ad campaign for her soon-to-be-launched fragrance True Reflection. In the image, Kim is sporting long, retro-inspired curls paired with a flawless creamy complexion and a standout red lipstick, along with the caption "another pic from my new True Reflection fragrance ad campaign...ultra glam! LOVE red lips! #ChannelingElizabethTaylor." What do you think of Kim's latest ad campaign? Do you love it? Or do you think it's a too similar to her vintage-inspired beauty look from her last campaign?

Elizabeth Taylor knew jewellery. The late, great movie star became synonymous with extravagant, fabulous fine jewellery; in particular the famed 69 carat Taylor-Burton diamond necklace and the 33 carat Krupp diamond given to her by ex-husband Richard Burton. Dripping in diamonds became Taylor's signature style — and now those signature sparklers are up for auction, with Christie's planning to put her extensive collection, estimated at approximately $145 million dollars, under the hammer. The auction date has not yet been set, but we're guessing the sale will pull an impressive crowd of jewellery aficionados and Taylor fans alike.

Though her movie heyday was decades ago, she created the standard for what glamorous leading ladies are all about, from her memorable roles to her many handsome men. Here's a look back at the icon: her love life, her career and her unbelievable beauty.
