The Best of Resort 2014: Accessories Edition
The Resort 2014 collections certainly warrant a closer look, right down to the very last detail. But it's not just the never-ending supply of lightweight fabrics and vacation-ready pieces that make these collections ripe for vacay styling; it's also the shoes, the bags, and the glittering jewels that do the bulk of the statement making. Ombré colourways provide new meaning to bright palettes, floral-embroidered tapestry bags double as chic beach totes, already-sexy pointy-toe pumps are transformed with even sexier cut-outs, and modified takes on the evening clutch aren't limited to graphic motifs and raffia finishes. See the best of the Resort 2014 accessories, here in the gallery.
Cannes Best Dressed: Crown Your Red Carpet Queen
Far outweighing the glamour of most other red carpets, the Cannes Film Festival is as much about the jaw-dropping couture as it is about the movies. This year's fest was no exception — from start to finish, we were treated to a lineup of A-list dressing. Given the non-stop glamour, it's not easy to play favourites, but we've narrowed it down to just a handful of the most stunning Cannes arrivals. Cara Delevingne lit up the scene in a sultry black lace Burberry gown, Freida Pinto wowed in brilliant colour with a bright pink Gucci gown, and Jessica Biel hit the carpet in a frothy, feathery Marchesa confection and a megawatt serpent necklace.
Not to be outdone, Marion Cotillard dazzled in an elegant white Dior dress, and Nicole Kidman played official juror in a decadent and ultra-feminine Valentino Couture gown. Of these five most memorable fashion moments, who's your Cannes red carpet queen? Cast your vote now.
Razzle-Dazzle! See Sydney's Finest Frock Up for The Great Gatsby
It may have been raining last night at Sydney, but that didn't put a dampener on the glamour on show at Moore Park's Entertainment Quarter for the much anticipated premiere of The Great Gatsby. The official invitation asked "a hint of 1920s" from the A-list guest list, and deliver they did — some getting more into the theme than others. Leading ladies Carey Mulligan and Elizabeth Debicki took a more relaxed approach to the dress code, donning a Nina Ricci bustier and Lanvin trousers, and full-skirted floral Christian Dior respectively. Others, like Emma Freedman, Kerri-Anne Kennerley and Deborah Hutton, got right into character in flapper-esque dresses with plenty of sparkle.
The middle of the road approach looked the chicest to us; best exemplified by Laura Dundovic, Delta Goodrem, Kate Peck, Alice Burdeu and Jesinta Campbell who added who paid subtle tributes to the era via headpieces, antique lace, deco shapes or metallic fabrications. Good work, girls! This is one red carpet round-up you don't want to miss — step inside to zoom in on all the razzle-dazzle!
2014 Resort: Christian Dior
Over the weekend, Christian Dior presented its Resort 2014 collection in Monaco. The principality has held special meaning for the house since 1956, when actress Grace Kelly wore a Dior gown to celebrate her engagement to Prince Rainier of Monaco. The return to Monaco was both an homage to the house's heritage and also a signal of a new era in how (and where) the label stages its Resort collection, with plans to always take the collection abroad going forward. But this wasn't the only poignant moment to come with the glamorous showing. For the first time, Raf Simons incorporated lace into his pieces, working the fabric into everything from sheer blouses and fitted crop tops to modified coatdresses and relaxed sheaths. "I thought it's kind of old and too romantic and too tragic. And suddenly I thought, it's a challenge to make it modern and edgy and kind of futuristic," he said. A look at the complete collection, plus our review, here in the gallery.
Top Ten Best Dressed This Week: Jennifer Lawrence, Diane Kruger, Olivia Palermo & More!
There were two designers whose names were all over the best-dressed lists this week: Christian Dior and Prabal Gurung. Their incredible designs were seen on the likes of Nicole Kidman, Diane Kruger, Jennifer Lawrence and more this week, and we've gotta say, we're seeing some of their best work ever. Diane Kruger might be the only star who can pull off a belly-button-exposing top at a high-class Vogue dinner (and pull it off she did), and we were thrilled to see Jennifer Lawrence opt for something different after a sea of black during the awards season a few months ago. Olivia Palermo showed prints who's boss, Nicole Kidman earned her mega-star status, and Sienna Miller? Well, let's just say we're glad she's back on the scene. Stars Bring the Gatsby Glam to Cannes
It may have been raining on the red carpet, but that did not stop our favourite stars from attending the premiere of The Great Gatsby at the opening ceremony to this year's Cannes Film Festival. From Carey Mulligan's sleek and streamlined Dior Haute Couture gown to Cara Delevingne's ultra-sexy body-con number from Burberry, these chic starlets weren't afraid to fete this year's fest with a level of glam that could only be surpassed by Jay Gatsby himself. A look at all of these gowns and more, here, in the gallery.
All the Famous Faces That Have Worn Dior by Raf Simons (So Far)
Alexa Chung, Olga Kurylenko, and Marion Cotillard are the latest in a long list of fashion darlings and actresses to take Raf Simons from the runway to the red carpet. Ever since Belgian designer Simons, formerly of Jil Sander, took the reins at the legendary label, he's presented five exquisite collections. Naturally, stars like Cotillard (the face of Lady Dior) and Jennifer Lawrence (the face of Miss Dior handbags) have flocked to his jaw-dropping gowns, and we can totally see why. Simons is breathing new life into the design house by taking iconic past-collection references (think New Look from the 1940s) and updating them with a modern twist. Step inside to see all the stars who have donned Simons's designs for Dior now.
One to Watch: Olga Kurylenko Delivers High Fashion Over and Over
Tom Cruise's latest leading lady, Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko, lights up the big screen in Oblivion. But the former Bond girl's high-fashion choices have also been drawing major attention on red carpets worldwide. At the most recent Oblivion premiere in Japan, Kurylenko stepped out in a gorgeous striped Dior ball gown, but she's treated us to a variety of glamorous looks on every stop of her promo tour. For the Hollywood premiere, she took the plunge in a sexier Burberry number; in Taiwan, she gave us high fashion in a Balmain minidress with gold Jimmy Choo sandals — for more from Oblivion's leading lady, just keep clicking.
