If you're a fan of Alexander Wang then chances are you own at least one piece from his more affordable basics line, T by Alexander Wang. For the upcoming Fall season, T grows from a label filled with tees and tanks into new territory with blazers, skinny pants, denim jackets and knits all included in the range. This could explain why Wang's Fall '10 main line collection seemed so mature and refined compared to seasons past. As he explains to WWD "As we evolved, I felt like the main collection needed to have more of a point of view on the runway."

The T collection will be closely linked to the Alexander Wang label focusing on the same trends and detailings; for instance the popular beanies which featured on the '08 runway will now be included in the T range. "This is about the foundations, clothes that people want to wear and live in. Our girl can use the ready-to-wear to sprinkle in the excitement, but these [T] are the core pieces of her wardrobe." Two words, bring it.
OK peeps, before we head straight into the London shows, lets take a quick (cat)walk through some standout trends New York had to offer. There's definitely been a pattern emerging with military, tailoring, ladylike, layering and texture all appearing in full force. Despite the hot weather outside this is making me want to ditch the Summer dress in favour of a woolen coat and hosiery! Ah, the power of good clothes. Ready, set, drool!
It seems Wang's model-off-duty muse has quit the catwalk and found herself an office job, who woulda thought it? Referencing Wall Street gypsies as his inspiration, the part goth, part tailored, part rock Fall collection will certainly throw a few curveballs to his '80s sportswear-inspired Spring fans. Wang explains the look for his collection as "women who make money and women who steal money," which might explain the slicked-down hair teamed with pinstripe suiting on models such as Natalia Vodianova, Agyness Deyn, Sasha Pivovarova and Karlie Kloss.
Sleek black pants, cut-out woolen capes, leather skirts, cropped jackets and chunky knits proved to have all the trimmings of a mature Winter collection, however the midriff-baring suiting and lace-insert slipdresses left me a little confused. I didn't immediately love this collection, but can imagine his trusty clientele of hot young things (who I can already see lining up for all the accessories) will gradually help change my mind.

Are you bummed you can't make it to the New York Fall fashion shows this year? Well cheer up, sunshine! US designers are coming to the rescue by broadcasting their shows live online, with Alexander Wang, Rodarte and Calvin Klein all jumping on the livestreaming bandwagon. Showstudio.com will be presenting both the Wang and Rodarte shows, while the CK show will be broadcast on calvinkleininc.com as well as Facebook.
While this is welcome news to most people, fashion insiders are lamenting that this could mean the end for future fashion week shows. US fashion writer Derek Blasberg recently tweeted his despair, "With all these shows streaming live online (Marc, Calvin, Burberry, etc), I shed a tear for the ultimate end of fashion week. It's coming." Boo. Do you think he has a point?
Louise Roe predicts Fall 2010’s top trends will fall into two categories: feminine or futuristic. In one camp, designers like Zac Posen, Carolina Herrera, and Monique Lhuillier are taking cues from Old Hollywood silhouettes as seen on the red carpet from celebrities like An Education’s Carey Mulligan and Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks. In the other camp, fashion-forward thinkers Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, Yigal Azrouël and Project Runway winners Christian Siriano and Irina Shabayeva are taking a more avant-garde, Avatar-inspired take on what’s to come.

Alexander Wang's had a busy week. Straight off the heels of his newly launched NYC guerrilla marketing campaign, the boy wonder has released his Spring accessories and T collection online. For the upcoming season, Wang dreamt up modern mules and clogs covered in soft suede and leather. While black, camel, and taupe dominated, a pop of leopard print in a V-shaped pump added some visual flair. For handbags, the popular duffle tote reappeared in new tones of grey, camel, and leather denim, along with smaller, studded messenger bags. Even though the T line isn't part of his main collection, we couldn't resist throwing in some of our faves. You know you want more Wang . . .
Come Monday, Alexander Wang will plaster the streets of NYC with his first-ever ad campaign. "The [images] were originally only supposed to be posters we were going to send to editors and stores," said Wang. "But I felt the energy was much more appropriate for something like guerrilla marketing than anything too proper or formal. Because T is really the core foundation of what Alexander Wang stands for, I thought it should be something that could be much more democratic." The monochrome ad features Hannah Holman showing off Wang's super soft tees in cool stretch formations. So fresh, just like the man himself. Are you feeling it?
