Nicole Kidman was the epitome of an iconic movie star, wowing the crowds at Cannes with her blue, red, black and white L'Wren Scott dress - that she went with the designer is no surprise, but her dress was a bold choice that really paid off. Also rocking the prints was Nicole's good friend Naomi Watts, in a floral Dolce & Gabbana tea-length dress, while Jess Hart and Megan Gale opted for black dresses with pretty details making all the difference. Megan Gale Steals The Spotlight At The Cannes Film Festival

Australian model Megan Gale is no stranger to the Cannes Film Festival, but this year might be her most glamorous appearance yet! Wearing a custom-made dress created by her friend and go-to designer, Alex Perry, Megan joined four of her fellow L'Oreal Paris spokeswomen - the cosmetics giant has been the festival's official makeup artist since 1997 - on the red carpet at the premiere of Benicio Del Toro's new film, Jimmy P. Megan posed in the rain with stars Cheryl Cole, Eva Longoria, Doutzen Kroes and Jane Fonda, afterwards tweeting to them, "Lovely to meet you tonight . . . Much love to you all". Fashion Week: Top 10 Colour Trends from MBFWA

The runways were awash in fresh hues at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, bringing welcome respite from the khaki/black/Bordeaux/navy of the A/W palette we've become so accustomed to. The Spring/Summer season traditionally signals the return to colour, but this season a definitive palette emerged from the catwalk. Bold, almost paintbox-bright tones of cobalt, marigold and fuchsia replaced last season's ubiquitous neon brights and pastels were back, albeit in powdered-back incarnations of sky blue, peppermint and the palest of pinks.

Of course there was black and white, but that (as we detailed in our mega-trend round-up) was worn almost exclusively together, and as part of a broader mod-inspired trend. A new set of go-to neutrals emerged with a modern, almost sci-fi edge; white (often worn head to toe), navy blue and high-shine silver provided crisp contrast to the vibrant brights or pretty watercolour hues. True, the temperature might be in decline but advance notice is always a handy thing! Get acquainted with the colours that are set to define the new season.

We've painstakingly gone through our runway round-ups from Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia with a fine tooth comb to pick out the very best new season shoes and bags from the Spring/Summer offerings. Many local designers out-sourced their accessories to chain store brands this year, which is great news if you want to make these runway wheels yours!

Tony Bianco provided those killer lace-up boots for Alex Perry, as well the 'Cambridge' wheels for Camilla and Marc, the 'Dice' and 'Libby' heels at Ellery, the 'Lolita' pumps at Toni Maticevski, the 'Ashley' platforms at Rebecca Vallance and the ankle-strapped heels for Bec & Bridge. ASOS was all over the catwalks too, supplying Christopher Esber with his 'Hostage' heels, Talulah with their flirty tie-up sandals and We Are Handsome with their metallic 'Hackney' stilettos. Last night at Sydney's The Star, celebrities flocked to celebrate CLEO magazine's much-anticipated relaunch. New columnist Kelly Osbourne was flown in especially for the fun-filled event, walking the red carpet in an Alex Perry frock hot off the MBFWA runway (albeit in black, not ecru as shown). The local celeb-set joined the E! Fashion Police commentator in the festivities, bringing their party-dress best. Laura Dundovic shone in a sexy Manning Cartell two-piece, chosen by beau James Kerley, Zoe Marshall looked chic in a plunging lilac Suboo sheath, Celebrity Apprentice contestant Prinnie Stevens was elegant in white in Bless'ed Are The Meek number, Nikki Phillips went the embellished route in a red leather Isabel Marant shift, and editor Sharri Markson took Kelly's lead by opting for a corseted Alex Perry party frock. Julia Nobis looked like a modern-day fairy on Alex Perry's Spring/Summer '13-'14 runway, a halo of stage-show lights creating an ethereal glow as she stalked the darkened loading dock-cum-catwalk. It might have been the start of another red carpet spectacular, however there wasn't a Perry Princess in sight. Gone were the full-skirts and layers of tulle that we've come to expect from Alex, replaced by equally spectacular but noticably downsized silhouettes. Short, ready-to-roll party dresses with high necklines and full, bell-skirt shapes started proceedings in a wave of delicate, gauzy laces. Then came the gowns! Slinky mermaid trains chased up the figure-hugging sheaths. Subtle colour-blocking, front splits, neoprene and strategically placed sheer inserts lent a sporty vibe, complimented by the use of racer-necklines and feature backs. Suiting broke up the frock-fest with razor sharp tuxedo blazers and cigarette trousers. So-sexy lace-up thigh high boots furthered the long, lean lines on show - putting the focus on that sexy three inches of thigh between the edge of the dress hem and the top of boot. It was an Alex Perry show no doubt, but not of the usual kind. And we like that.

Colours: Nude, black, white, marigold yellow, peach and gold.
Trends: Racer-necklines, front splits, sporty shapes, sheer, lace, colour-blocking and the trouser suit.
Key Looks: Gauzy lace party dresses, sleek and sexy gowns, schmick tailoring and anything with an exposed zip.
Accessories: Tony Bianco exclusively created the lace-up front/zip-up back ankle and thigh-high boots in camel and black suede.
