It may not be as big a fashion event as the grand Met Costume Institute Gala, but the CFDA Fashion Awards, which were held at the Lincoln Center in New York City today, still manage to attract a very stylish crowd that brings together actors, musicians, models and designers. Miranda Kerr continued her streak of sexy post-baby outfits in a black cut-out dress with a thigh-high slit, while Jessica Alba draped her baby bump in an orange and purple number. A range of stars opted for white on the night, including Sofia Coppola, Whitney Port, Kanye West and Kerry Washington, while bright colours also reigned supreme, with Ashley Greene and Alessandra Ambrosio making bold statements with their dresses. 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards: All the Must-Have Manicures!
A memo clearly went around before today's CFDA Awards as all the models of the moment were wearing their nails nude. As in nada, naked, sans polish. It's something we saw at Chanel's cruise collection 2011/12, which means only one thing, peeps: no polish is the new polish. Bucking the trend (and brightening our day) was Kirsten Dunst who went with mint and Shenae Grimes who opted for orange, while Sucker Punch actress Carla Gugino and Desperate Housewives' Marcia Cross busted out the black. Lady Gaga kept her look sharp (literally) with red talons and Whitney Port went with a metallic mani.
2011 CFDA Fashion Awards Trend: Bright, Block Colour!

We expected today's CFDA Fashion Awards to be full of killer red carpet looks (which they were), but we didn't expect there to be so much poke-your-eye-out colour! Bright, verging on neon, solid blocks of colour to be precise. Everyone from models Chanel Iman and Alessandra Ambrosio, to J.Crew designer Jenna Lyons, to beauty queen Aerin Lauder, to a bloomin' beautiful Jessica Alba opted for ensembles in hard to miss shades. The real trick to pulling off this look? Because of the stand out colour you don't need to go to town on the accessorizing, meaning you're out the door in five minutes flat. Head turning, modern but a cinch to pull off; that's some intelligent red carpet dressing. Bring on the brights!

2011 CFDA Fashion Awards: Kirsten Dunst

Kirsten Dunst swapped her usually pale and pretty style for a tailored black menswear-inspired tuxedo suit for today's CFDA extravaganza. Her style 180 caught us by surprise, but we're enjoying seeing a harder edge to Kiki's sartorial repertoire. A top-buttoned white shirt, metallic blue lapels (which matched her minty nail polish, FYI), fine silver hoops and sleek black pumps added the perfect fuss-free accompaniments to her chic ensemble. What's your call on Kirsten's mannish makeover?

Chloë Sevigny Takes the Plunge at the CFDA Fashion Awards

Chloë Sevigny brought her signature quirky style to the CFDA Fashion Awards in New York today. She worked the purple carpet in a monochromatic dress and finished her look with bright lips. Since her show Big Love came to an end, the actress and fashion designer has a new film, The Wait, in post-production, and has been tapped to play murderer Lizzie Borden in a new HBO series. Do you like Chloë’s look today? Have your say on Fab and Bella’s fashion and beauty polls!
2011 CFDA Fashion Awards: Alessandro Ambrosio

Those Victoria's Secret angels sure know how to dress for attention! Alessandro Ambrosio showed off her toned and tanned skin in a cut-out scarlet gown that matched her creamy red lip colour. Sensibly choosing to pare back the rest of her makeup look (take note, Eniko Mahalik), Alessandro wore only mascara and a subtle shimmering white under her lower lash line to open up the eyes. Her streaked hair was worn in bouncy bombshell curls naturally. Thoughts?
