As the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival comes to a close, we've been once again intrigued by all things French. French women are renowned for their beauty, whether it be an insouciant flip of the hair, the evening glamour of a deep red lip, the embrace of "flaws" like gap teeth: all so, French. But what else makes these women uniquely chic? To find out, we asked a few in-the-know people to explain the je ne sais quoi of French beauty. Keep reading.
Slipping your feet into sandals and thongs in the Summer is reason enough to keep up with your pedicures. Don't skimp on your feet up-keep once the temperatures cool, though. "Caring for your feet in the Winter is very important because heels can thicken and crack," says Dr. Elizabeth Tanzi, co-director of the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery in Washington DC.
"Those cracks can become painful and infected if left untreated." Getting a weekly pedicure would be choice. But if you're looking for something a little more wallet-friendly, there are plenty of at-home procedures for those looking to smooth out their soles. "Use a thick moisturiser containing urea or glycolic acid under socks at night," Dr. Tanzi says. Layer on a lotion like Kiehl's Imperial Body Balm ($54) all over your feet, and slip on your favourite socks before bed. Dr. Tanzi also suggests exfoliating with a pumice stone, or using a similar dead-skin-removal method, once a week in the shower. Your feet may be stuffed into your warmest boots, but they'll be healthy enough for a spur-of-the-moment trip to the Caribbean. Hey, it could happen.

When you're plagued with a persistent pimple and need to clear it up fast, never fear. Here's an easy, two-ingredient spot treatment that comes together in no time. All you need is a small bowl of crushed mint leaves and oats.
- Take a handful of fresh mint leaves and pulverise them with a pestle in a bowl.
- Next, add moistened oats to the mixture and mix until it forms a paste.
- Apply evenly to your face, or just to your affected areas, and wait 20 minutes.
Relax and take deep breaths during your waiting time; allow time for the oats and the oils to absorb. Apply twice a day as needed, storing the remaining mixture in a sealed container in the fridge.
