The weeks here at Sugar are sliding by so fast, we can't believe we're already ending our third week back! It's been a really big and busy week, with the Critics' Choice Awards last Friday and the Golden Globes on Monday taking over our minds and computer screens. In between scoping out all the amazing dresses and divine beauty looks, we were trialling new products that landed on our desks, picking up some fun deliveries (we love a good slogan tee!) and interviewing the lovely Rose Byrne at the premiere of her new movie, I Give It a Year. There was plenty more action — click through to check it all out and happy weekend, everyone!
Award season kicked off this month, and there have already been so many memorable moments. Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom made a glamorous entrance at a Golden Globes after-party while Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain showed off their statues. Sandra Bullock hung out with her The Blind Side co-star Quinton Aaron at the People's Choice Awards and Matthew McConaughey shared a Critics' Choice table with Christian Bale. The Golden Globes were strewn with plenty of hot hair and makeup trends, but we're zooming in on the best nails that also graced the red carpet. Here's an up close look at the top manicures from the many red carpets of award season 2013, from subtle designs to shimmering polishes to nail colour basics.
Straight off a day of all-out glamour at the Critics' Choice Awards, we're rehashing the event's big winners (as if we could love Ben Affleck or Jennifer Lawrence any more) and still drooling over the most glamorous accessories. Award season obviously brings out the big guns when it comes to jewels, bags, and heels, and last night was no exception with Harry Winston, Chopard, Brian Atwood, and Jimmy Choo (to name a few) accompanying our favourite looks down the red carpet. Some, like Naomi Watts's Irene Neuwirth earrings, offset their dresses perfectly, while others, like Leslie Mann's pink Tiffany clutch, played right into the gown's pretty colour palette. In every case, we can hardly imagine what these ensembles would be without their high-impact add-ons. Click on to get up close and personal with the night's best accessories right here.
The night was full of big wins for plenty of fan favorites at the 2013 Critics' Choice Awards in LA on Friday. Top winners included Ben Affleck, who won best director for Argo; Jennifer Lawrence, who picked up statues for best actress in a comedy and best actress in an action movie; and Anne Hathaway, who took home the best supporting actress honour for Les Misérables. Ben's Argo also won best picture, while Emily Blunt and Jopseh Gordon-Levitt supported Looper despite Skyfall beating it for best action film.
Jessica Chastain, Daniel Day-Lewis, Bradley Cooper, and Judd Apatow also had big evenings at the event. Judd nabbed a genius award for his contributions to the world of comedy, which was presented to him by Rebel Wilson, who earned big laughs for her speech. Other big moments included Quvenzhané Wallis flipping out her iPhone to read her speech when she took the stage to accept the award for best performance by a young actor or actress and Anne revealing that when she won best actress for Rachel Getting Married in 2009, they spelled her name wrong on the statue. Celebrities brought their fashion A-game to the Critics' Choice Awards, showing us nothing short of exquisite looks. Embellished gowns raised the style bar, whereas daring cut-outs injected a sexy turn on the red carpet, black gowns received a modern revamp, and the uncommon shorter silhouettes caught our undivided attention. Five leading ladies stole the spotlight tonight: Nina Dobrev stunned in an embellished teal-hued Monique Lhuillier minidress, Jennifer Lawrence took our breath away in a black cutout gown with leather detailing from Prabal Gurung, and French beauty Marion Cotillard showed off that perfect je ne sais quoi in a fit-and-flare Zuhair Murad featuring pretty floral appliqués. But there's more: Amy Adams showed off a two-toned gown by Vionnet, while Naomi Watts showed off her unstoppable style in a black strapless gown Emilio Pucci gown featuring a sexy, sheer cutout bodice. Now we want you to weigh in — which red-carpet beauty gets your best-dressed vote?
If you missed our live cross to the Critics' Choice Awards, we're bringing you some of our interviews backstage with the night's winners right now! Stars got glamorous for the Critics' Choice Awards in LA yesterday, hitting the carpet in gorgeous looks. Best supporting actress winner Anne Hathaway chose a sexy metallic Oscar de la Renta look for her big night, while nominee Marion Cotillard went short in a floral Zuhair Murad number. Jessica Chastain, who won best actress for Zero Dark Thirty, brightened up the carpet in a red Prada gown, and Jennifer Lawrence took a dramatic turn in Prabal Gurung. Amy Adams chose a two-tone Vionnet look, while Naomi Watts wore a black, strapless Emilio Pucci and arrived on the arm of husband Liev Schreiber. There were many more dresses to see, including Nina Dobrev's teal Monique Lhuillier and Octavia Spencer's midnight-blue Tadashi Shoji. Make sure to check out all the Critics' Choice arrivals, too!
On the Critics' Choice Awards red carpet, Old Hollywood waves were the theme of choice. Celebrities like Emmy Rossum, Naomi Watts, Jaime King, and Jessica Chastain wore flowing curls that harked back to the days of Veronica Lake. Each star's style was swept over the shoulder to play up the vintage feel. Emmy's and Naomi's curls hung a bit loose for a relaxed crimp, while Jaime and Jessica sported curlier versions. Each of these variations on retro red-carpet hair, however, did the original Hollywood starlets proud.
