Black boots are like the denim equivalent of any footwear collection: versatile to the point of ridiculous, fabulously functional yet cool for any occasion. Which is why I'm shining the Editors' Pick spotlight of this un-sung shoe hero. Whether you want an on-trend seasonal update (hello gladiator cut-out boots!), or have simply worn out that trusty pair that got you through many Winter — our editors have done the legwork for you. Step inside to see their online selection. . .
Flat boots: nothing keeps your toes drier or your legs warmer. This cool weather classic may give you flashbacks of HRH Princess Anne stomping around the royal (muddy) grounds, but thanks to this season's tweaks (collumn shapes, heel cut-outs, over the knee heights) the flame has been reignited for this wardrobe essential. Tuck your skinny jeans inside your knee-highs for a fuss free look, or play with proportion by teaming a solid-shaped boot with a flirty, mid-thigh hemline. Either way you play, you're guaranteed ten warm-as-toast tootsies. Step inside to shop our top ten edit.
Are they shoes? Are they boots? Shoots? One thing we know for sure: whichever way we're looking at these little hybrid numbers, we're loving them. Perfect for the approaching cold weather, the heel versions give you all the sex appeal of a stiletto, combined with the comfort and ease of a secured foot and ankle — it's genius, really. The flat versions skew to the edgy side of style, with laces, chain detail and buckles lending all the intrigue necessary. Just like with clothing, good cut-outs on shoes reveal sexy snippets of what lies beneath, while keeping the overall look elegant and stylish. What's not to love? We had a little peruse and found so many pairs we loved — but we've narrowed it down to our top 10. Click to see them all here!
As the weather starts to take a turn for the worse (or better, depending on your seasonal preference), our minds are starting to think about all things warm and cozy. We've been inspired this past month by Fashion Weeks all over the world — whether it's miliary-inspired colour schemes at Prabal Gurung in New York or slick navy looks stemming from Lanvin in Paris, it's clear that covering up has never looked so good — and we're getting right amongst it. As for accessories? Marisa has found her perfect weekend bag and Jess is branching out with her colour scheme. Chanel Autumn/Winter 2013 was all about celebrating the brand's global reach. With the strains of "Around the World" pumping through the Grand Palais, Karl Lagerfeld sent models swirling around a gigantic light-up globe with interlocking CC logo flags dropped in to the brand's boutiques around the world. Chanel's iconic tweeds turned up in boxy jackets with rounded shoulders over matching miniskirts, while the famous quilted bag got an update with an open-ended handle. Night-time came in layers of sheer black over chain-laden boots and globe-shaped minaudières. From the folders filled with photos of the collection by Lagerfeld himself to the enormity of the set, there was a precision and an attention to detail that one can only expect of a house like Chanel. If this is Karl's world, then we want to live in it. Click through to see the full Chanel 2013 collection.
Kate Bosworth doubled up on Topshop wares for the UK high-street retailer's official opening at The Grove in LA, supplying us (once again) with an outfit we can copy without breaking the bank. Unlike her yellow printed minidress from the evening before, this laid-back denim-top and floral-jacquard-skirt combo provided the foundation for cross-seasonal dressing. See, if you're approaching cooler climates, this look needs only a pair of thick opaque tights, a faux-fur vest, and a long camel coat to take on a more wintry feel. But for now, Kate's ensemble is ready to go as is. We're taking the scouring out of the equation, making it that much easier to follow suit — shop the exact Topshop pieces you'll need below. Although you can't see from this angle, Kate's J.W. Anderson for Topshop denim shirt (approx. $74.94) is actually two-toned, providing built-in colour dynamic. Meanwhile, her ice-blue Topshop floral jacquard skirt (approx. $81.96) offers up cool architectural pleats, feminine texture, and the perfect amount of proportional play against the boyish silhouette up top. Lest we forget, her edgier lace-up booties aren't available on Topshop (yet), but here's a similar style (approx. $82.44), complete with rugged sole.
So how exactly do you spice up a black t-shirt and jeans? Diane Kruger has a few ideas. The actress's classic denim and tee took a turn for the trendy, thanks to a few bold pops of colour and a Prada bag and Christian Louboutin boots with bold personalities. While straight-leg jeans and a basic black top may seem like a boring way to start your outfit, they're actually the perfect canvas for building something infinitely more interesting. With too much going on on her top and jeans, we might miss Diane's cool-girl shades or posh, tangerine-hued tote, but an understated foundation lets those accents shine. Lastly, a pair of Christian Louboutin booties with both buckles and a metallic cap-toe lend a little street-chic — the same vibe we get from her signature newsboy cap. Lesson learned: turn heads just with a few eye-catching add-ons.

We're continuing with our Essential Winter Wardrobe series — forgive us for the break in transmission. We did have the MTV Movie Awards (Monday) and the CFDA Awards (Tuesday) to contend with! You should have your oversized knit situation sorted, and know how to work a pair of leggings by now, so today we're showcasing this season's standout boot buy — the pull-on ankle boot. This low-heeled, easy to wear wonder will become a go-to, trust us! If you don't already own a pair, snoop our online round-up of the best styles around; from leopard printed pretties to unexpected khaki hues to the original Dicker boot that kick-started the trend (thanks Isabel Marant!), you needn't look any further than our top ten edit.
