Did you know celebrities get paid to sit in the front row at fashion shows? I didn't. Industry insiders have revealed that A listers such as Beyonce (who gets US$80,000-$100,000), Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen (US$80,000 each) and Chloe Sevigny (US$60,000 or more) make quite the pretty penny out of, well, just sitting pretty. It seems the real top dog is Rihanna, who gets a staggering US$100,000 or more to attend.
The mind boggles at how much Burberry must have spent for Spring 2010 as it had support from Agyness Deyn, Victoria Beckham, Alexa Chung, Freida Pinto, Mary Kate Olsen and Emma Watson to name a few. This is good work if you can get it, but I wonder how vital it is for the fashion brand. Do you think designers are using their money wisely with these front-row guests, or is this a little bit excessive?
What I think these "industry insiders" aka fashionista.com did was call a slew of garden variety talent agents and received generic quotes. One thing you learn about casting a front row is…never call agents. They love throwing out ridiculous nilly-willy high prices. And that does not even get you anywhere near guaranteeing the talent. Booking talent for front row or any other event or project is not as cut and dry as buying something online. There is no Celebrity Ebay.
