When it comes to the dreaded task of cleaning out the wardrobe for Spring, we need all the help we can get. But with a little know how, you can turn that closet clear-out into a money-spinning venture that will leave you with an organized wardrobe and coin to hit the shops with! The Frock Exchange in Sydney's Clovelly one of the finest emporiums of pre-owned vintage and designer threads, so we sought the counsel of VIP customer manager Danielle Draper on the best ways to on-sell your wares, as well as what to look for when buying vintage.
FabSugar: What's the best way to go about selling your second-hand clothes?
Danielle Draper: Firstly, visit a cross-section of second-hand, vintage and recycled clothing stores to get a feel for who to target with your wares. Be familiar with the sort of product they sell, be it high end labels, vintage or chain store pieces. Evaluate the standard of the clothes you're wanting to sell, and target the stores accordingly. You'll have better success with your pieces selling this way.

FS: What are your thoughts on eBay?
DD: EBay is great! It's a little more DIY, so it's not for the time-poor, but it's a really good option if you're not familiar with, or conveniently located near consignment stores.
FS: Many vintage stores (like The Frock Exchange) offer in-store credit in return for items sold. If you're looking to re-invest your fashion funds, what are some good value vintage buys?
DD: Look for classic pieces that won't date. Iconic items like a Burberry trench, a Chanel tweed jacket or a designer handbag in good condition are all great to buy second-hand, as they may be the sort of thing you couldn't afford brand new, but will always be in style. Otherwise, I'd say look for more contemporary designers that do 'on trend' styles. By buying second-hand, you can afford to get the latest look, but for less.
FS: What labels should you keep your eyes peeled for?
DD: Chanel, Lanvin and YSL are iconic, and always highly sought after, but younger designers like Isabel Marant, Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney and Balenciaga are also really popular for more of-the-moment buys.
FS: What are the two best pieces to buy vintage?
DD: I'd say a great coat or jacket, especially those made in the '60s onwards as they are so well made and hold their value. An iconic handbag is also a fantastic buy and is always worth the investment.
