Mud Trailer: Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon Are Mysterious Drifters
Though it seems almost impossible that romantic-comedy veterans Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon have never played love interests on screen, Mud marks the first time they're playing opposite each other. However, the trailer for the indie drama looks far from lighthearted. McConaughey plays a fugitive who appears on a small island in the Mississippi River and befriends two young boys who let him hide out in their boat. Witherspoon plays Mud's estranged love, though it's not clear whether the couple is meant for each other or better off apart — or whether Mud is a falsely accused good guy or a villain who's just manipulating the boys into keeping his secret.

McConaughey has been getting lots of accolades for his acting lately, and his work in Mud may garner him more; I was impressed with his performance in the preview alone. Even though we don't get to see them interact, I'm looking forward to seeing him paired with Witherspoon (who gets to use her own Southern accent). I'm also interested in seeing Michael Shannon in the film, whose presence gives Mud just a little more ominousness. Mud will come out at Sundance, and we're still waiting on an Australian release date, but you can watch the preview after the jump.
Matthew McConaughey Opens Up About Lance and Premieres Mud at Sundance
Matthew McConaughey was still looking lean, but clearly has been working to put back on the kilos as he premiered his movie Mud at Sundance on Saturday night. Matthew's leading lady in the film, Reese Witherspoon, didn't join him for the Park City red carpet. Matthew and Reese debuted their film in Cannes and since then it has been quietly gaining positive buzz and momentum. In recent months the headlines about Matthew have been all about his weight loss for The Dallas Buyers Club, but this past weekend fans wanted to know about something else — his friendship with Lance Armstrong and his feelings about Lance's fall from grace. Matthew opened up a bit about his feelings of anger and disappointment in the wake of Lance's admissions. Matthew said that he was "pissed off" at Lance initially and that part of him took it personally, but then sad when he watched Lance's interview.

Daniel Craig Cheers On Rachel at the NY Film Critics Circle Awards
Jessica Chastain, Matthew McConaughey, Rachel Weisz and many more stars celebrated their fellow actors and filmmakers at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards in New York City yesterday. Matthew, who wore a suit by Dolce & Gabbana, won best supporting actor for his performances in Magic Mike and Bernie while Rachel beat out Jessica — who did triple-duty that night by appearing on the Late Show and attending a screening for Mama in addition to this event — for best actress for her role in The Deep Blue Sea. Rachel's husband Daniel Craig cheered Rachel on from the audience when she won her award.
Jessica's film Zero Dark Thirty was the big winner of the night, earning best director for Kathryn Bigelow and best cinematography for Greg Fraser. Highly-buzzed-about films Les Misérables and Argo missed out altogether. However, those films and their stars will have plenty of chances to scoop up more honours once awards season starts up in earnest this week with the People's Choice Awards on Thursday, the Critic's Choice Awards on Friday and the Golden Globes on Monday.
Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves Welcome a Baby Boy!
Ending 2012 on a high note, Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves welcomed their third child on Friday! Camila gave birth to a baby boy, named Livingston, in Austin, Texas. Matthew shared detailsincluding that "Livingston Alves McConaughey was born at 7:43am on 12/28/12. He greeted the world at 9lbs. and 21 inches. Bless up and thank you for your well wishes. Happy New year, and just keep livin'."
Matthew was in town for the big event after recently wrapping production on The Dallas Buyers Club in New Orleans. Matthew and Camila famously shared the first photo of middle daughter Vida shortly after her January 2010 birth, so we'll have to wait and see if they post a photo of baby number three in the upcoming weeks. Congrats to Matthew, Camila and the rest of the family!
