We still have a soft spot Lauren Conrad, even though the The Hills wound-up back in 2010. The reality star-cum-fashion designer has always had a knack for nailing that laid-back Cali-girl vibe, and coming up with pearlers of down-to-earth advice, be it style or love-life related. Have you read her book? LC landed herself the March cover of Lucky magazine, and being the gem that she is, she answered the reader-submitted questions with her usual honesty. God love her.
Is there a piece of style or beauty advice that you think sort of changed your life? I can’t remember who told me this, but it was ‘Get your clothes tailored.’ Like most people, I used to wear clothing off the rack. But having them fitted to me makes a really big difference, especially with pieces like a cocktail dress. Little nips and tucks can take 10 pounds off you.”
How did being a former reality TV star affect your reputation in the fashion industry? The TV show did not help my reputation very much. It was difficult to be taken seriously. But I think the fact that I went to school to study fashion and worked in the industry helped me. I think it’s a good thing to feel like you have to prove something, because you’re always going to have to work a little bit harder.
Are there any fashion moments you regret? I try to never look back at how I dressed in the first few seasons of Laguna Beach because it was pretty bad … head-to-toe bad. This past summer, MTV replayed every episode and I would always see it and be like, Ahh, noo! I wore these capri denim pants a lot and they were so bad.
Do you tinker with your boyfriend’s style? A little bit but not really. He’s just a jeans and T-shirt guy, which I like. I like no-fuss style. Sometimes I’ll buy him clothes and sneak them into his drawer!
Step inside to see Lauren work her classic sense of style for snapper Dewey Nicks and Lucky.
