Well, errrr, as a fashion blogger, I'm going to tread verrrrry lightly on this one. You may have heard by now that little Tavi Gevinson, the 13 year old American fashion blogger, has received a fair amount of backlash for being seated front row at the Christian Dior couture show recently. This has sparked a number of magazine editors and fashion bigwigs to express their concern over the growing number of bloggers who are taking precedence at fashion events over industry veterans.
The Independent reports that Sarah McCullogh, Selfridges' creative concepts manager and an avid blog reader, said: "It's mind-blowing that bloggers like Tavi are at the couture shows and being showered with all kinds of gifts. It has soured things a little bit for me." UK Grazia's style director Paula Reed was also less than impressed after tweeting a picture form the Dior show as seen through the gigantic bow headband Tavi was sporting on the seat in front of her.
What are you thoughts on this? Should magazine editors have authority on fashion shows and news, or do you prefer a fresh take on fashion as provided by bloggers like Tavi? (Be nice people, it could cost me my job!).
I think the reality is that blogs/internet are overtaking magazines. I think fashion mags have become increasingly stuffy and people are looking for fresher content, and the added bonus is that you can usually add your own thoughts on what has been posted. I had never heard of Tavi so I had a look at her blog, was impressed!
