Some of TV's most stylish stars stopped by Variety's Emmy event over the weekend, though anyone expecting a slew of bright, Summer-ready dresses would have been disappointed. Instead, ladies like Emmy Rossum, Hayden Panettiere, and Kerry Washington opted for more somber shades. Emmy picked a patterned dress with sculpted shoulders and waist-cinching panels from Bibhu Mohapatra's Resort 2013 collection, while Kerry wore a black Calvin Klein Collection sheath accented with leopard pumps and a Roger Vivier bag. It was a dress-free evening for Hayden, who did skinny J Brand leather pants with a sexy sheer top. Which dark look was your favourite?
Kerry Washington joined up with a few of television's biggest stars when she attended Variety's Emmy Studio event at the Palihouse in West Hollywood yesterday. A Calvin Klein-clad Kerry met up with Elisabeth Moss, who wore a 3.1 Phillip Lim dress, Emmy Rossum, and Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany to take part in a panel for leading actresses in drama series. Hayden Panettiere also dropped by the event where she took part in a discussion with Homeland's Morena Baccarin and The Newsroom's Emily Mortimer about their roles as supporting actresses in drama series. It wasn't only about the ladies at the TV event, as Vincent Kartheiser, Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam, and William H. Macy also took part in a pre-Emmys conversation of their own. On Wednesday, the event hosted Zooey Deschanel, Mindy Kaling and Busy Philipps for discussions about their hit comedies.

Special occasion days on social media have become an opportunity to whip out blast from the past photos, which is exactly what celebrities did to celebrate Mother’s Day! Aussie beauties including Rachael Finch, Jesinta Campbell and Ricki-Lee Coulter went back into their photo albums to express their gratitude for their mums. If people weren’t bringing back shots from the archives they were at least posting pictures of their usually-camera-shy mums — even Lara Bingle tweeted, “Can't wait to see what everyone's moms look like on Instagram!” And of course the celebrities who have already experienced motherhood, like models Miranda Kerr and Alessandra Ambrosio, sent their love to fellow mothers around the world. Braids are the perfect 'do for any season and Emmy Rossum showed off her best braided style at the Saving Tails Gala. Re-creating the look is simple because the key is imperfection. Sweep hair over one shoulder and make a plait secured with a hair elastic. If all your hair isn't quite long enough to go to one side, then use a bobby pin similar to your hair colour to secure at the nape in back. Then use your fingers to stretch the braid, making more flyaways, which are a good thing in this case! Finally, to hold back Emmy's long bangs, a few white lacquered bobby pins were added. Get a similar look with these Lady Jayne Bobby Pins ($2.99). Swipe on a bright red-orange lipstick like Nars Heat Wave ($39) to round out the look. With Emmy's fresh look in mind, we're all set to brighten up a dark Autumn's day.
Gwyneth Paltrow's been getting around town a lot lately, and as usual, we've been impressed by her style choices — but this purple Victoria Beckham ensemble pretty much blew all the competition out of the water. Pairing the bold purple with an even bolder Michael Kors heel, it's a brighter look than usual for Gwyneth, who tends to opt for neutrals — and we think it's ace. Competing with her in the style stakes? Elizabeth Olsen, edging up her look with a cool, sexy mix of leather, lace and fail-safe black, Keri Russell in one of the best leather dresses we've ever seen, style icon Jenna Lyons in a pastel dream of an outfit and Stacy Keibler displaying her fine form in a white eyelet-detailed Rebecca Minkoff number. Who else made the top 10? Come see!
