What do Channing Tatum, Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, and Miss Piggy all have in common with Taylor Swift and Harry Styles? They're all members of the Dirty Dancing re-enactment club. The two were spotted on the dance floor after a One Direction concert re-creating the classic dance scene. We have all the details in this PopSugar Rush.
It was the Summer of 1987, exactly 25 years ago today, that Patrick Swayze danced his way into Baby's heart and ours with the release of Dirty Dancing. Besides being about a steamy Summer romance, this classic '80s coming-of-age flick pushed some mainstream movie boundaries by including an illegal abortion as a major plot point. Writer Eleanor Bergstein's decision to keep the abortion in the movie even cost them a major corporate sponsor, Clearasil. The way the film handled that as well as the familial relationships and friendships made us like it all the more — with the soundtrack and one-liners as the icing on the cake. So in honor of its 25th anniversary, check out some of the best lines on life and love from Dirty Dancing!
Is it just us, or has Dirty Dancing just gotten better over the years? From our first slumber-party video viewing to last week's nostalgic rediscovery of the classic Summer romance story on cable, we are still smitten. To capture the look of the film for your own home, we're sharing screenshots of some of our favorite moments from the film, along with tips and decor that will help you create that romantic Summer feeling in your home.
Understandably, Dirty Dancing is the gold standard for '80s romance movies. The coming-of-age story about a teenager's last Summer before college involves rebellion from parents, an older man, and some intense dance scenes. Are you ready for the film's 21st-century incarnation? Presenting, the Dirty Dancing Facebook game.
With over 10 million page fans, Dirty Dancing is the ninth ranked movie on Facebook, a fact that the game designers hope will drive fans to play as part of Baby and Johnny's world. Taking a cue from Farmville, players in the Dirty Dancing game act as managers and caretakers at the Kellerman's Resort, the film's Summer vacation setting. Build the resort into a bustling, romantic destination and offer guests the same activities as in the film. The major events for players to host and up their overall score is, you guessed it, a dance show. Sound like something you're into, Facebook gamers?
Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone were on The Today Show to talk about their new movie Crazy, Stupid, Love. There was a chance for Ryan to show off his smooth moves, when he engaged in some classic movie dancing with Al Roker. Word had gotten out that Ryan could do the classic lift from Dirty Dancing, and Al had the treat of being his dance partner — check it out!
With Summer in full swing, I got to thinking about movies that are set during the season. Although it takes place in 1963, Dirty Dancing still captures the spirit of Summer with its vacationing family, infectious stream of jams, and, of course, one of the most beloved tales of Summer love ever captured on film. The movie also provides a long list of memorable quotes. Check out a few of my favorites, and chime in with your own below!
- "I carried a watermelon." — Baby
- "God wouldn't have given you maracas if he didn't want you to shake them!" — Penny
- "Nobody puts Baby in the corner." — Johnny
Last year for Halloween, I had witches on the mind, but this year, it's all about the cult movies. Since Jennifer Grey has been a force to be reckoned with on this season's Dancing With the Stars, let's kick off this series by paying tribute to the role that made her famous: Baby Houseman from Dirty Dancing.
There are lots of different '60s-style costume options for Baby. When it comes to her beauty look, her curly light brown bob stands out most. Just be sure to tease the underlayers of the back of your hair (or wig) like crazy to achieve her triangular-shaped coiffure.
While Baby never wears all that much makeup, a lipstick shade in a brownish-pink, rust, or pretty rose tone, paired with a subtly frosted pink, purple, golden, or taupe shadow will do the trick. Top off with some soft pink blush, topaz-colored liner, and get up out of that corner and do the pachanga with your lover boy.

If you're feeling back to cool, then I've got another dose of inspired ensembles. This time, I'm channeling the nostalgia of one of my favorite film classics, Dirty Dancing. Oh, who could forget Baby and her coming-of-age quest in the Summer of '63? Once she meets Johnny it's buh-bye family fun, hello sexy dance parties. But aside from sultry Summer love, it's also a study in easy, retro-fied chic. Steal Baby's signature style with this Seven For All Mankind Oversize Shirt ($155), or do like Baby's big sis, Lisa, and try preppy pearls and a pretty party dress like this ModCloth Periwinkle Prance Dress ($99). Just remember — "nobody puts Baby in a corner!" Shop the style by clicking on the items.
What better way to pay tribute to the late Patrick Swayze than with an ode to his "Baby" in Dirty Dancing? The story of a rich and innocent teenage girl turned infatuated woman will always be engraved in my memory. My favorite scene was when Frances "Baby" Houseman told Swayze she carried a watermelon — hilarious. Replicate Baby's innocent '80s look in a white Summer dress and matching heels, or with high-waist denim shorts and a cropped white top. Oh yes, don't forget the tight curls and sexy dance moves!
