In honour of this week's focus on all things denim, we're looking to some of our most all-timing inspiring denim icons. Along with the LBD, a pair of well-fitting jeans is a wardrobe essential. Transeasonal, super-versatile, durable and eternally chic (when you pick the right cut), there's a reason why denim's become part of our modern uniform. Take a gander at these iconic denim looks for some classic inspiration. Think Claudia Schiffer in her bootcuts, Cher giving hers a bohemian spin, Alexa in her double denim, Farrah in her flares and Brooke Shields and her world-famous Calvins.
Naomi Watts wore a Victoria Beckham Collection dress to attend Thursday night's Take Home a Nude art auction with Liev Schreiber at Sotheby's in NYC. They held hands and posed for pictures at the annual event, which benefits the New York Academy of Art. Brooke Shields and Padma Lakshmi also stepped out for the bash. Naomi, a former spokesperson for David Yurman, also smiled for photos with David himself. It's been a busy week for Naomi of balancing work and family time. Naomi went to Target's 50th anniversary event Tuesday, when she told us all about her upcoming project Diana and the pressures of playing Princess Diana. On Wednesday, Naomi and Liev showed their sporty sides kicking a soccer ball around an NYC park with their youngest son Kai.
What makes a style icon? Fame? A unique look? After snooping these previously-unseen snaps from Brad Elterman's upcoming exhibition, Factory 77, we think such a title is dependent on time. Michael Jackson's smart tuxedo suit? We want it. The shrunken tee + stonewashed jeans from the Ramones' on-tour wardrobe. Still so cool. Madonna's black bustier? The perfect Saturday night solution. The trail-blazing Hollywood paparazzi's motivation was never the clothes when he was honing his candid, behind-the-scenes style of photography, but none the less we're taking sartorial inspiration from his amazing back catalogue of work. Unfortunately, we can't attend Brad's exhibition opening tomorrow night in LA, so we'll have to make do with these select few preview shots. Step inside and see why these stars are still icons in our eyes. Images courtesy of Brad Elterman and WWD.
Sure, poodle perms, frosted shadows and brick red lipstick might look a little dated now, but they were the winged eyeliner of their day, so we need to give them the beauty props they deserve. Here's a gallery of 20 stars who stood out with their memorable makeup and hairstyles at the Oscars from way back when. Take a closer look at Natalie Wood and co. now.
Chalet Girl follows the story of Kim (Felicity Jones), a cute tomboy who swaps the life she knows — living with her dependent father (Bill Bailey) and working at a burger joint — for a few months of living and working in the Alps as a chalet girl. Armed with sass and sarcasm, Kim doesn’t fit the mould of the usual chalet girls, which is exactly what catches the eye of Jonny (Ed Westwick), the son of her super-rich employers.
You’d be forgiven for thinking that Chalet Girl is a rom-com about the relationship between Kim and Jonny, but it actually focuses more on Kim’s snowboarding hopes and dreams, with a side-serving of romance.
Sophia Bush, the cute brunette actress best known for her role as Brooke Davis on One Tree Hill, enters into British rom-com territory in the upcoming release Chalet Girl. She plays Chloe, the long-time American girlfriend of Ed Westwick’s character Jonny, who joins him on a family trip to the Alps where they own a chalet. While Sophia’s role isn’t huge, her relationship with Jonny is affected once he meets Kim (Felicity Jones). Check out our online exclusive clip where Sophia explains why she had to have a role in Chalet Girl.
They usually say you should never work with children or animals, but in the case of Felicity Jones in Chalet Girl, it seems like a bottle of champagne was the object that gave her some of the most trouble while filming! Felicity stars as Kim, a tomboy who takes up a job as a chalet girl working for Ed Westwick’s character Jonny in the Alps, where she cooks, cleans and serves clients (with a side serving of attitude, it seems). Before you check out Chalet Girl when it opens here on September 1 — and don’t forget we’ve got a competition where you can win a double pass to see the film — watch our online exclusive behind-the-scenes clip where lucky Felicity gets sprayed in the face with a drink!
The actors and voice stars of The Smurfs hit the appropriately-coloured blue carpet at the film’s world premiere in New York today. Katy Perry, who lends her voice to Smurfette, wore a dress with her character printed on it, and Alan Cumming similarly got into theme by wearing a cute T-shirt. Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara and berry-licious Olivia Palermo took a glam approach, while other stars made it a family occasion, with Melissa Joan Hart and Brooke Shields bringing their children to the premiere. Of course, the event wouldn’t be complete with appearances by some of the Smurfs, and stars had fun as their photos were taken with Papa Smurf and Smurfette.
Holy moley! Could the 2011 Cannes Film Festival get any more glamorous? After being inundated a plethora of pics from last night's amfAR's Cinema Against AIDS Gala, we think not. All the stars showed up in gowns worthy of a night at the Oscars for this ultra sophisticated soiree. Carine Roitfeld showed up with Kanye West on her arm, Mischa Barton made her red carpet return, whilst Courtney Love (wearing Givenchy) played Chinese whispers with Karl Lagerfeld. Speaking of, there was a strong Chanel-clad contingent including Kirsten Dunst, Uma Thurman, Karolina Kurkova and Clémence Poésy working the red carpet.
