Chris O'Dowd is a familiar face to many after his megahit from 2011, Bridesmaids, and his UK series The IT Crowd. He had plenty of options in terms of films to make following Bridesmaids, and he chose to work with an unknown Australian filmmaker on what is now the Cannes hit The Sapphires. The Weinstein Company picked up rights to distribute the feel-good comedy starring Jessica Mauboy and Deborah Mailman, so audiences in the US will also be able to see Chris' latest when it comes out in August. We caught up with Chris and director Wayne Blair last week at the Cannes Film Festival, and both guys chatted about the process of making The Sapphires. Chris, who's marrying UK TV presenter Dawn Porter later this year, also dished about the crazy process of planning his very own wedding.

The Cannes Film Festival came to a close on the weekend, with director Michael Haneke’s film Amour receiving the coveted Palm d’Or, the competition’s top prize. Over the past few weeks A-list stars travelled to the French Riviera for the cinematic event to present their films, including Brad Pitt, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Nicole Kidman and plenty more. The black, white, and grey plaid confection had a structured bodice and was accompanied by a very Victorian-inspired bustle and train. She kept all eyes on the gorgeous gown by keeping her hair and makeup slightly subdued, and accessorising only with a pair of diamond earrings. The 65th Cannes Film Festival may have wrapped up but the final days saw some of the most gorgeous looks so far. She was among the juror panel that presented director Michael Haneke's Amour with this year's Palme d’Or, the competition's top prize. Diane kept with her black and white theme and for her final red carpet appearance she chose a formal Christian Dior ball gown. She complimented the look with minimal jewellery, and showed no signs of the $45,000 engagement gift necklace Joshua Jackson reportedly purchased for her during their stay in France.
Alec Baldwin and his fiancée Hilaria Thomas joined Diane, Adrien Brody, Ewan McGregor, Kylie Minogue and Jean Dujardin were also on hand for a screening of Therese Desqueyroux, the festival's final event. Megan Gale made her Cannes Film Festival debut at the premiere of Reese Witherspoon and Matthew McConaughey’s movie Mud on Saturday. The Aussie supermodel was there as an ambassador for L’Oréal, which is a major sponsor of the annual event. Megan turned heads in a fitted Alex Perry gown and wore her hair in a French roll, and said of her designer friend on Twitter, “The man CAN make a frock!” On Sunday she switched things up at the closing ceremony in purple Versace, where she struck a series of poses for photographers. Megan’s one of the many Australian stars who made their way to Cannes this year, including Nicole Kidman, Kylie Minogue and Guy Pearce.
Reese Witherspoon and Matthew McConaughey posed for photographers before climbing the grand staircase at their Cannes Film Festival premiere of Mud on Saturday. Reese chose a glamorous blue Versace gown for the formal event that showcased her growing baby bump while Matthew modelled a sexy tuxedo. Matthew and Reese began their day at a photo call for the film before capping off their evening with a screening and after party. It's Matthew's second premiere since arriving in France. He hit the red carpet on Thursday with Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron and John Cusack at The Paperboy's star-studded premiere.
